Heavy door hung on concealed hinges

Yes but no need to change it now the carcass is butchered. You could smarten it up by replacing the nylocs with dome head nuts and adding an end panel to the wardrobe.

    Dent repair

It's a guesstimate. Ask people you know if they know anyone and get a quote that way. There are mobile bodywork guys that will come to you and do it. (Keeps their costs down if they operate from the back of a van) Otherwise take it into a body shop and ask, but that will usually cost more.

A few hundred quid. Maybe more if you want the paint to match.

22mm OSB3 vs Ply bathroom subfloor

18mm is ok if the floor joists are sensibly spaced and the floor isn't bouncy. Use plenty of screws. One thing to note, cement board isn't waterproof, unless you have some fancy stuff, it will get damp and it will let moisture through, so don't use it thinking it will save your wood floor if...

22mm OSB3 vs Ply bathroom subfloor

It's true that there is some cheapie ply out there with rubbish glues. But the t&g flooring ply is no worse than osb, if it's wet enough that it's delaminating then the osb equivalent will be swollen up in the same conditions. In some ways softwood floorboards are better than sheet materials.

22mm OSB3 vs Ply bathroom subfloor

You can get structural cement boards that won't swell or delaminate. Use a decoupling mat over this. Otherwise I would go 18mm ply with 6 mm cement board on top.

    Would Starmer campaign for Reform?

It's not just about the pay, the power, influence, income and benefits continue long after office.

    Would Starmer campaign for Reform?

Result as predicted, Starmer's sh**ting himself.

    Would Starmer campaign for Reform?

I hope he does do this, it would highlight Starmer's authoritarian nature and make him even less popular.

    Would Starmer campaign for Reform?

Why would you want to boot out a decent bloke with sensible ideas? We haven't had one of those in charge for a long time.

Advice needed for changing old extension

Fill the windows in, insulate the walls all round, new or upgraded roof with skylight. If you're brave, dig up the floor and insulate that too.

Lucy Letby case - Evidence discussion thread

I wasn't aware of that. My point still stands though. A wrongful conviction should always result in compensation.

    Insulated floating floor support

Probably won't make much difference, 6m is a pretty spread out point load. But manu instructions must always be followed! Confused about the slc, this is to smooth off the surface before laying the insulation boards? Or to make up the depth? Do you mean self levelling screed, what depth are...

core drilling 162mm for kitchen extractor vent

That works, if you have another drill you can attack the circle you've just cut, diagonally from outside to in. The point is really just to reduce friction on the diamond bit as it goes in. Keep vaccing out the dust for the same reason. I can drill a 125mm hole in a 9" wall with a lowly 2kg...

    Water ingress garage wall

Wind pressure will blow rain through a single skin wall. You could paint the wall with a masonry protection cream, various types available. Dries clear and will turn the wall into a goretex jacket, breathable, but water droplets just bead off.

    2 storey side extension

Make sure the damp proof membrane goes up the wall to tie in with the dpc. Or lower the ground, add drainage. Does it cause you any problems at the moment?

    Insulated floating floor support

You could fold up the damp proof course, hold in place with tape. If batten is necessary for levelling the compound, you can always remove it afterwards, it doesn't need to stay there. Just ensure the dpm goes up to meet the dpc, tape or sealant to join the two, then lay the PIR right up to...

Lucy Letby case - Evidence discussion thread

Barry George springs to mind, ok he's out now, but refused any compensation on the grounds that he wasn't 'innocent enough' 8 year stretch, conviction overturned. Refusing him compo would only be moral if 'might be guilty' was an acceptable verdict in his trial.

Recomendation for a palm router and planer

These look really good for the money, I suppose prices at the budget end of the tool sector are being driven down by the likes of Aldi/Lidl/Amazon/Temu etc.

    Shed Base

You don't need to screw the plastic base to the slabs, the weight of the shed will hold it. Airflow underneath is essential to prevent rot, don't fill the underside completely, leave and airspace of at least 50mm between bottom of floor joists and the insulation, no gravel. PIR seems...
