Hi there. Could you please recommend a palm router and a planer. I do a lot of DIY and I dont really buy cheap entery line power tools. I'd be grateful if you could propose a couple mains and battery powered quality options.

I have the DeWALT DCK266P2T Brushless Combi and Impact driver with 18V (5.0Ah) batteries. So it might be convenient to use them with a bat operated palm router or planer.

Ryobi are currently running their promotion, buy a battery+charger and get a free tool.
Their 18v router isn't too bad at all.

I only work in domestic properties. When using my router or planer, both are connected to my dust extractor (read: vacuum cleaner with auto start). Whilst working, I need to control the hose, keeping an eye on the power lead is no biggy. I see no advantage to using battery versions of either. It's not like I will be using them up a ladder. Your usage might be different though. Oh and if I go for cordless tools, I will need to pay over £100 for the module which connect to my dust extractor.

I have a small corded palm router- unfortunately it doesn't have dust extraction but it was gifted to me. My larger router is a half inch Dewalt with a dust extraction port. My planer- again a Dewalt. It is not brilliant (the rebate depth is about 12mm). If my pockets were deeper I would buy the Festool one, it only has a single blade. The blade is at an angle, so you get a cleaner cut rather than having two opposing blades that are set at very slightly different depths.

I do have cordless combi drills though.

I've got a Festool midi dust extractor. Corded router and planer could work for me and would make sense if I want to use dust extraction.

It would be nice to get a Festool but I won't use it often enough to justify the cost.

The palm router will get much more use so a recomedation for a good courded one with dust extraction would be good. I'd like it to be compatible with dovetail jig if possible.

I have recently noticed that Rutlands are doing an Axminster and releasing their own range of power tools. By and large they seem to have decent reviews and very competitive price points. Possibly worth a butchers.

Given that your Midi has a 3.5mm hose length, it might be prudent to ask Rutlands how long the flex on the tool is. Additionally, ask if the extraction port will accept the 27mm hose connector. I recently purchased a concrete grinder from Amazon, it was only about £150 but the flex is annoying short. It is about 2m but it means that I constantly have to move my Midi. And the stepped adaptor dust extraction port kept falling off so I used hot melt glue to hold it in place. Yeah, I guess I could fit a longer flex but I have no idea how long the tool will last. I purchased it for a one off small job.

I have used Rutlands but have never purchased their own brand power tools.

These look really good for the money, I suppose prices at the budget end of the tool sector are being driven down by the likes of Aldi/Lidl/Amazon/Temu etc.
