You want to put a gutter on the side to catch the water then a downpipe to direct it somewhere. Google Cedral Wetherboard for the cladding.

Have you got any spare cedral to clad it with? Probably quite difficult to make a "mortar" repair that won't crack again.

I like the Cedral stuff. I've seen some double stuff called Fortec that covers quicker but I think it costs a bit more.
