Old Double Light Switch Replacement - Wiring Help

I've used the other one on another double light switch I had :) Now I know it was indeed the correct switch to use, I'll go and get another. Fun fact; as I was replacing the old other switch, I forgot that the switch served both an internal and external light - I forgot to turn off the external...

Old Double Light Switch Replacement - Wiring Help

So if I use another spare earth cable I've got and run it from the new switch back to the wall bracket where the other earth is? Or should I remove the earth from the back box and instead put it on the back of the new socket? I did the former on the lights I just switched out. I actually have...

Old Double Light Switch Replacement - Wiring Help

Thanks for the replies. I noticed that the intermediate switch has the same wiring on the back, so I thought I'd just get one of those? Thoughts? @RandomGrinch there is one in the backbox already but there's also one on the switch which the instructions "demand" you make use off- I have some...

Strange Oven Issue - Works but only one way.

Hi guys I've got a single electric oven that we've had for about a year now. It's a cheap Culina one but we have to buy cheap as the depth of our space is 530mm and you can't get *good* brands at that depth. Anyway something strange is happening recently. My wife mentioned the oven wouldn't...

Power to Shed - From Greenhouse

Thanks again winston Okay, then I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to bring power into the shed myself. I honestly didn't think it would be that difficult.

Power to Shed - From Greenhouse

Hi winston, Thanks for coming back to me. What cable do you suggest? Can said cable just be terminated at a 13a plug, and plumbed into a double wall socket without issue?

Power to Shed - From Greenhouse

Hi all, Hoping you can help. I finally erected a small shed next to my green house yesterday. The greenhouse has an electrician-installed shielded cable down our concrete fence, from our house which is directly connected to an RCD. The greenhouse has a double socket, and I was thinking of just...

Oven Powered But No Modes Trigger Response

Hi all, Here's where I'm at. Oven worked fine yesterday, the clock is still working (so it's powered), but now when changing to any mode (fan, heat, light, grill) and setting a temperature, the fan doesn't start, and nothing heats up. I've tried changing to automatic mode using the timer, and...

    Quick Mains Question

Long story.. I'll cut to the chase. I need to refit an external might on our garage but I don't want to take the mains off s my alarm will kick off. Can I just trip the garage circuit from the mains to cut electric to the garage whilst I complete the job or not?

Conservatory with downpipe into Water Butt

I *think* I have a fix.....when the new guttering is done, I'll ask them to splice off into the downpipe on nextdoor a side. It's only like a foot over the boundary and won't bother anybody (I'll check with next door)...at least that way we know it's going to a drain that way. ..

Hi foxhole, I'll take some pics tomorrow. The guttering I think attaches to a shared downpipe on next doors side...

Conservatory with downpipe into Water Butt

We have no way of knowing where the drain is as we are on the end or a cul-de-sac. I'd rather not have to immigrate a mole and have lots of dig sites, but yeah that does look ideal. Any other ideas...no matter off the wall? As things stand the new roof people are moving the guttering back in...

Conservatory with downpipe into Water Butt

Hey all, Long story short, our conservatory which is about 13 years old was seemingly built without a soakaway. The downpipe goes into a water butt but that is constantly overflowing (and it's a big one!). There is a small soakaway used for the boiler overflow but that's the other side of the...

You couldn't tell from my question I'm not well versed in electrics? :) To be fair though, it's all gone fine - just need some crimp caps tomorrow. Ta!

Cooke & Lewis (Yes I know) Electric Oven Question

Hi @JohnD Right I got a cooling fan replacement and I fitted it, however I deleted (accidentally of course) the photo I took of the motor connections for the cooling fan. I connected it back up as best guess by the way the wires bent, and it "works" but I'm just wondering that if I connected...

Cooke & Lewis (Yes I know) Electric Oven Question

Hi, That sounds more like it - does it also how whilst the oven is on as there is definitely a fan sound missing from the oven whilst it's on? Assuming the fan at the back is the'heating' fan?
