Just had complete new boiler installed and as part of that had all radiators fitted with brand new trv valves and lockshields.
However, am finding that when the trv is set to off for a particular radiator when the heating is on, that radiator is not cooling down at all.
Same for all...
I have an old 1960s rectangular plastic cold water header tank.
Currently it has some old planks of wood on top and some thin plywood on top of that. All very mouldy.
Id like to get a proper lid for it. Preferably plastic. It measures 880mm x 790mm.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Was hoping for better after job customer service from the big companies as I typically haven't got from the local people I've used in the past. Basically, fixing any issues. Time will tell though.
You might see me slagging off British gas or Boxt on here in a few weeks.
British gas Quoted me £5723 for 15kw WB conventional boiler in the larder cupboard. Waiting time of 3 weeks.
Awaiting Boxt to try and do better. They can fit in a few days though.
Had never heard of Boxt until recently but my research shows them coming out better than British Gas in all respects.
Thanks. Certainly does make maintenance difficult. The CH header tank sits right above the cold water tank ball valve.
When I've woken up I'll take another look and go through your message on detail.
Things should all get resolved when I get the whole system and all tanks etc replaced. Got...
Many thanks. Interesting reading.
The house was built in 1965 to give you an idea of pipe ages.
The CH header sits on a plank directly on top of the large DCW header tank.
That strikes me as strange and not a good idea. The expansion pipes are set up correctly.
The water in the DCW header is...
In this case the water is pushing its way into the cold water tank, except the water in there is a bit warm now.
When that tank was full, it did overflow.
Discovered the cause of the brown water.
The CH header tank was full of rusty water from expansion pipe due to old boiler, plus sediment.
When I had the CH drain valve seal fixed (due to leak) the heating engineer bunged the CH header tank.
Some water was lost when fixing the drain valve seal...
Any rough idea how much a conventional boiler replacing back boiler, fitting all new parts, tanks, cylinder, extra piping, the lot would cost?
Just preparing myself for the shock of Monday's quote.
Thanks.
All extra weight in favour of conventional.
Thought conventional would be more expensive due to extra tanks. I'd be asking for cylinder, CH tank and cold water tank all to be replaced as they're all pretty old.
Thanks. Makes sense.
Most likely go for a boiler insurance plan though, so they'll by someone to fix it if it is more complex.
Thank you. Makes sense.
Think I'm heading down the route of conventional boiler now. Might be more expensive but don't want the future hassle.
Plus the added bonus of...
As detailed in other posts, I'm replacing my back boiler with either a combi or Conventional Boiler.
Am in the proceedings of getting quotes and trying to work out which to go for.
We have a medium sized 3 bedroom mid terrace house with single bathroom with shower over bath and total of 7...
Aside from British Gas and and small local companies.
Any big companies like British gas I could try for boiler replacement?
Have British gas coming Monday but feel I need more quotes.
Are Boxt any good for example?
Thank you.
My understanding is that the pipes that feed the central heating are coiled inside the cylinder. Since we had the thermostat changed there is clearly a noticeable difference in radiator temp as expected.
The cold water is clear, so I'm guessing that the header tank in the loft must...
For those that saw my recent post enquiring about replacing my back boiler to something modern. Looks like this has now been brought forward.
Have started getting brown water coming from my hot water taps. All cold water in bathrooms and downstairs is fine.
I believe that the piping inside the...
