Yes they've been on-site several times and been sent pics in lieu of being there for certain works. They have no further queries as all have been answered (foundations, insulation, RSJ, etc) - so I'm wondering what else they will want to check on the final visit!

Nope: he specified the steel post which is why we put it in. Calcs came first. But he never mentioned a portal frame until now!

I think I'll look to put restrictor hinges on one of them. I'm still not clear on the fire regs for upstairs rooms though: it's all so confusing, isn't a wide opening that's fire safe ALSO a hazard for falling out?!
