    Alternator Repair

Alternators I used to work on years ago, the rectifier had soldered connections, but the regulator had screwed terminals. If yours is like that changing the regulator isn't a soldering job. I suppose these days it might have a combined rectifier/regulator, you can tell if you dismantle it.

    Trump doesn't like Pope Leo.

As the Pope has no divisions (not counting his Swiss Guard ;)) that's a bit of a no-brainer.

    Trump doesn't like Pope Leo.

To quote Josef Stalin - "How many divisions has the Pope?"

    Poor hot water system.

Is there a cold water storage tank (CWST)? Most likely in the loft. Is the system fully pumped on the primary side, or gravity to the HW cylinder? Are there any motorised valves? The pump would be on the secondary side. Whether the rest is pumped depends on where the pump is. A sketch of the...

    Alternator Repair

Are you sure the alternator has a built-in regulator? In many modern cars the voltage is controlled by the engine management computer (by varying the field current, same as with built-in)

Do I have a gravity system or pumped & is it C/S plan?

There is, it's in the 2nd photo with your original post, it has a yellow electric shock label.

Sauerkraut only needs readily available ingredients. I fancied trying kimchi but specialist shop ingredients needed. Never tried kombucha or kefir.

Understanding room thermostats, saving on heating

He didn't give the combi output, but they're usually around 30kW, enough to give reasonable HW flow, or what's the point? Unlikely that's the reason for the low flow. Same here!

Understanding room thermostats, saving on heating

Why a surprise? The flow depends on the mains pressure and the height of the CWST. Sounds like the CWST is on the low side and can't be raised, so more often than not mains would be better. But it should have checked to make sure the change is worthwhile.

Understanding room thermostats, saving on heating

What made you change to a combi? There are pros and cons with a combi (mainly cons IMO), one problem being changing a gravity system to pressurised, as you've found. The installer should have pointed that out.

Understanding room thermostats, saving on heating

That's right, the solution is to throttle the hall rad more, so the roomstat there is less likely to be satisfied. The problem I see is when the outdoor weather is about 12° the roomstat will always be satisfied, so unless you turn it up you can't heat other rooms. Putting the roomstat somewhere...

Trumps attack on Iran - 2026 edition

Starmer talks as if we only need to increase defence spending because of pressure from the likes of Trump, and he's showing principled resistance by dragging his heels, saying 3% by 2035 or something.
