Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Cheers Madrab, that's good to know. I'll now ask the plumber to ensure we have a permanent and separate CW feed to the tower from the CW loft tank, which is basically what he was suggesting, also making sure the CW supply to the HW cylinder is the outlet above the CW supply to the shower...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Yes, this set up in the photo is for the new shower with the work done, albeit that the CW supply to the new shower is temporarily coming off the CW supply going to the bottom of the HW cylinder (just to see if the tank capacity is sufficient as it stands). That's the bit that will be changed...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

That sounds interesting. Could you explain a little more how that would work? To confirm, you're right. Tank in the loft, HW cylinder, on the floor below (1st), and shower on the ground floor. So at present, the HW outlet at the top of the HW cylinder goes up out of the centre of the HW...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Sorry for any confusion in my posts above. No, it's just the one shower we have. We do have a bath, but it's never used. We're replacing (have now replaced) an old electric shower which had a cold water feed coming off the mains, for a new gravity feed shower, with the cold feed coming off...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Excellent explanation - thank you. So, if the CW supply to the HW cylinder needs to be separate and above the CW output to the shower (I get it now!!), but currently there's no 'space' to put in a new CW outlet to the shower, below the present output, could we switch? That is, use the present...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Yes, the pressure will be the same, but will the flow rate be doubled with x2 22mm outlets as opposed to x1 22 mm outlet? So the CW tank will empty quicker?

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Thanks for that advice - I'm trying to get my unpractical brain around it! Just an update and a request for confirmation/explanation. The plumber has put in a temporary solution so we can see if this works- i.e there's sufficient water capacity in the current tank to answer the question as to...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Yes, that's basically what I was thinking. But the plumber I'd consulted about doing the job was a bit uncertain - neither for or against. I'd thought that we could take a feed off the gravity cold feed to the hot water cylinder to supply the shower, which he thought might be okay, but he...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

Thanks for that - really helpful. The shower has an Ultra Valquest DC70 Dual Valve Thermostatic Cartridge fitted and is thermostatically regulated by a cartridge so I don't think it's the free flowing type (although I could be wrong!). Water pressure is usually great, in fact we have to...

Gravity feed shower - tank volume sufficient?

We want to install a gravity fed shower on the ground floor to replace an old electric shower that was fed off the mains. In the attic, there is a 25 gall/114 litre plastic tank, that must have been installed when the house was rebuilt in 1985, and which was put in place before the loft...

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

I like that. Belt and braces system too and you've clearly learned, and put to good use, from the experience. Thanks for sharing.

Hey thanks. Much appreciated. And the sketch/plan was clear.

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

Yes, we have quite a low electricity demand, and so decided against a change-over switch and all the complications. Instead, with the genny, we stuck with the floating neutral earthing system and ensure that when powered directly from the genny we only ever have one class-1 item plugged in...

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

No, sorry it wouldn't. I understood your advice, but my bad written grammar in reply confused the issue.

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

Yeap. See above post. That set up works well at the moment from the outbuilding with the genny to the inner hall space currently for the genny feed. A bit too industrial for the kitchen though, and likely to get knocked/hit. But thanks for looking.

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

That's right. I've currently got one that runs from the genny in the outbuilding, to the wall between the out building and the house. However, for the kitchen to the garage feed, the only sockets that I can find aren't flush/recessed and stand proud from the wall. That's like what we have in...

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

Thanks. Yes, that's one straightforward possibility, although I was looking for something a bit neater, with a socket on one side of the wall through to one on the other side of the wall, but which avoided the 'suicide/widow maker' cable option.

Standby Inverter supply cable through a solid wall - how best to do this safely? (Ed,)

This is the situation. We live in an area where due to our rural overhead power supply, power 'outages' are not uncommon (15 days during Storm Arwen a few years ago). My partner has some expensive medications for her rheumatoid arthritis that need to be stored at fridge temperature or they are...

Resetting codes on Ademco Accord XPC

Battery recharging or is it 'shot'? Storm Arwen meant that we were without electricity for 10 days. When the power initially went off, the interior alarm sounded as usual, and I silenced it by keying in the user code on the keypad. However, I then forgot about the alarm system until day 3...
