    Boiler modulation and balancing

I was reading an article about balancing and it said to balance to get Delta 20 whilst the boiler is at full output or maybe it will only show Delta 20c at full output, otherwise, if it modulates down to the minimum (6.9kw from 28kw i.e. 4:1 in my case), then only that delta will be shown at...

    Boiler drop flow/return only 5C

Balanced all rads, tried @ Delta of 10,15, 20 and only 5C showing at the boiler even when all l/s fully opened up it still shows 5C at the boiler. Anyway, was reading some old posts and saw this quote : "If the system is running with a fixed pump speed and and automatic by-pass valve, the...

    Roomstat and TRV

Ok I know the principle of either there being no TRV (or if there is set it on max) in the same room as the room stat BUT, say I had the room stat at 19C, would it be beneficial to put the TRV on a setting just above 19c (about number 3 on a Drayton) in order for the water to be fairly flowing...

    Pump speed on combi boiler

WB 30kw Si compact boiler (about 12 years old) that supplies heating and hot water. The pump is a 15/60 3 Speed Bosch. If I set the pump to Speed 2 (or 1 even) for the CH, does it always use Speed 3 for heating the DHW? Can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Thanks

    Cladding over render?

There's a few fine cracks in my render but I was thinking of cladding over it anyway for a couple of reasons 1. the cladding is pretty solid but not a level clean look and 2. to improve insulation, rather than take 'space' off internally plus move sockets out etc. Good or bad idea? What would I...

Last radiators on the heating 'loop', L/S fully open or not?

We have 2 large radiators (1.9kw and 2.2kw) which are the furthest from the boiler. I have balanced all the others, some to 1/4 turn from off etc etc, but am unsure wether I should leave these last 2 rads fully open or balance to 12c or even more. They are in an open plan room and are in the...

Drip bead on lintel above window, silicone or otherwise?

I want to stop any possible backtracking of water on my lintel. Don't want to grind anything out etc. but I read somewhere about putting a bead of silicone on the lintel (or maybe even a upvc trim?). If so, would the silicone bead go on the 'face' of the lintel or underneath it, how far in etc ...

Flow and return temp at the boiler 5c even when rads balanced

All rads balanced to 12-15C difference, yet no matter what I do (even lowering the pump speed), when I look at the menu system on my WB Si compact 30 it only shows a 5C difference at the boiler ! Thought anyone? Thanks

    Boiler cycling query

Ok I have a WB 30 Si compact The minimum modulation is just shy of 7kw. My rads are about 9.5 kw in total. I can adjust anti cycle time or temp hysteresis via the menu. I know that unless the outside temps are 0 and below the boiler can't modulate low enough to keep running. What I'm unsure...

    Fixed window drainage holes?

Water leak from internal beading, I'm assuming either there is no (concealed?) drainage holes or they're blocked or maybe even the packers are blocking them? If I 'press' the bead, top or bottom, a bit of water comes out. It''s been going on for quite a while, I spent all summer making sure...

    Wall mounting TV

Mounting tv to a solid brick, unused, closed off chimney breast. Electricians have put a double socket below and to the left of the wall mounted tv bracket. Upon looking at the brackets that screw to the back of the tv I'm unsure if the socket will be in the way and won't allow the tv to sit...

    Which btu calculator?

Have measured my room(s) dimensions, window sizes etc and have had quite varying results. For a start, none seem to accommodate a 'normally' (1900's) built stone terrace house with a cavity (they have options for brick etc) I mean how thick would the stone be anyway? One site quoted 1.1 Kw and...

Feed and return pipes too close together?

Have just been looking at my central heating pipework and noticed that on a couple of runs (that are also situated under rectangle plastic trunking) that the copper pipes actually touch each other for 3 inches or so before branching out to less than an inch apart. Also on another run (again...

Integrated gas hob and gas oven time set

Ok, I have a fairly old Diplomat integrated gas oven and separate integrated gas hob. The oven is playing up and so we thought, for the oven part, we would get an electric oven (plug in under 3Kw). What I seem to remember though is that if we have the main electric power at the fusebox switched...

    Tanking

I am after some advice please. I live in the middle of a row of about ten 1900's built terraced houses. The road is fairly steep. Next doors (downwards) house has been empty for about 4 years, with the householder just coming back now and again to collect mail etc. Anyway, he has now decided to...

    Anti cycle or hysteris?

WB Greenstar Si Compact 30kw combi. Which control, when hitting flow temp+5 and then shutting the burner off, does the boiler software look at first, the anti cycle time (say 10 mins) or the hysteria temp drop (say 6 degrees). What I mean is, if the boiler goes into anti cycle mode, will it...

    Flow temperatures

Worcester Bosch Si Compact 30 Kw 7 rads + towel rad Roughly 8-9 kw rad output Ok, I keep hearing all the talk of trying lower flow temperatures and seeing the advice about trying different lower temperatures to see if your system would heat up ok with them. So, I thought I'd try at 48c and work...

    How to 'hide' these pipes...

Hi all, hopefully someone can help Please refer to the pics attached Have just purchased this house and was looking at the rad below the boiler and notice the flow and return (15mm) are literally together in this ducting. A couple of questions then : 1. Would the flow pipe transfer the heat to...

    Blanking plates/faceplates

Hi I have my Virgin cable coming directly through my wall into the living room from outside. I'm thinking of buying a blanking plate and drilling a hole in the middle to feed the cable through and then fixing this plate directly to my wall to look neater(without using a back box). Would the...
