    Sleeves for Concrete (Fencing)

Hi. I decided that I'd place my fence posts inside sleeves, then fill with concrete / Postcrete. If I buy 200mm diameter tubing, that is made of 3mm thick cardboard, I'd be paying about £12, each for my sleeves (not incl. postage). That's £60 for 5 posts + postage on top. I may be able to use...

Crack in garden wall after about 8 months

Hi. At the back of my garden, my neighbour had put up a wall made of largish blocks. They look grey and are like the size of the old breezeblocks. It's actually a retaining wall, (holding back about 90 Cm high soil) of two parts. The bottom part the blocks are arranged such that the width of the...

What to use for capping a border/barrier made of regular flags

Hi. Between my property and next doors, I've erected a barrier made of regular flags, The flags stand proud of the soil about 300m, 300mm being below the surface. I'd like to cap the top of the line of flags, so that they tend to remain in line. The flags are 48mm thick. My first thoughts are to...

Should the neon indicator on a shower switch indicate power to the shower?

Hi. The shower switch I have has a neon light indicator. It always remains on, no matter the switch position. This tells me the indicator is showing power to the switch & not to the shower. Is this correct, is that what the indicator is for? Thanks.

Are fixing holes on a patress subject to a standard placing?

Hi. The patress for the shower switch was smashed, but the switch plate itself is OK. The switch itself in made by Scolmore, Click brand I think. SW34511D-14B.E. But the patress is made by Legrand. 7364 11 15W50. So, the switch has an aspect ratio of roughly 2:1. (145mm x 85mm)...

Trench for foundations for a retaining wall: Need to be cut below the surface?

Hi. Is it a requrement that the trench for concrete foundations, for a retaining wall, needs to be cut below the ground surface? I mean the lower ground surface. A retaining wall that might be 8 foot high from my side is going to be built by my neighbour, but the bottom of the foundations...

    What thread on my gooseneck?

Hi. I've bought two gooseneck fittings that were probably made in China. The description gives the threads for each end as M8/M10. When I received the goosenecks, one of the smaller of the nuts (M8) was missing. So, I went and ordered an M8 half nut. But, it does not fit the smaller of the...

Very disappointed with my "Industrial Cobalt" DeWalt drill purchase

Screwing into a no-fines concrete wall: What screws to use?

Hi. Perhaps a bit obscure: I did not think it possible, but workmen were able to attach wood to the no-fines concrete wall in my home. I may need to do the same. Does anyone know what screws I can use? Possibly a flexible type I think. Thanks. Rich

    TITAN chain saw (TTL758CHN)

Hi. Just bought a chain saw by TITAN. I've never had a chain saw before. I believe I have installed the Guide Bar and the Chain correctly. I turned the saw on for a fraction of a second hoping that all is well. But, although I sensed the motor start, I'm pretty sure I never saw the chain move...

    Dormer drills A095

Hi. In the late 60's and during the 70's as a kid I'd use my dad's Dormer drills. They were black. Good drills. About 10 years ago now I bought two metal boxes of Dormer drills, A095 N0.202 & A095 No. 18. Paid about £150 for both. from Greenwood Tools Ltd of Bromsgrove. The drills are tipped...

Is there such a thing as a dedicated pipe inscriber?

Hi. I've got some steam pipe which is about 60mm diameter and thick-walled. I'd like to inscribe a line across the circumference (prior to grinding). Is there such a thing as a pipe/tube inscriber? If not, I'm thinking of getting a plastic tube cutter and using that (because you can get these...

Flag laying: Can you buy a "rail"?

Hi. When preparing the ground for laying flags you can lay down a pair of "rails" which, when used in conjuction with a scraper (which could simply be a piece of wood), produces a perfectly flat surface for the flags to sit upon at the right height. Question is: Can you purchase a "rail" made...

Needing the screw part of a clamp

Hi. I'm wanting to make something that utilises the screwing part of a G-clamp. Unless I can obtain only that part I'll have to buy a clamp and cut off from it the screwing part along with the threaded hole, and weld it to my "concoction". So, unless anyone can advise on a better approach, I...

Hi. Tempted by the offer (£2 a piece at ASDA) I bought 6 batten lamp holders by British General. Well made. But, have I been sensible? I mean, will bayonet fitting lamps still be able to be bought in the future, or are they on their way out to Edison Screw? Thanks.
