    ok thanks for your replies - I'll do what he asks me then, probably will get to do the condensate as well - i'm guessing screws will come with the boiler to hang them? otherwise what size is best? I really want to do well :)

    no I'm not gas reg but have done tightness test when helping an engineer before at services - i can do pipework, and have hung rad brackets - so just wondered if I'd be ok to help fit new boilers or if there was anything else i'd need to do or practice

    ok thanks for that - is a type K thermococuple (with clip on temepartrue sensor) suitable ? so when testing, if not open circuit, you need to watch the resistance reading doesn't go too low to prove it is faulty?

    ok ! I know the resistance shoukd change with temperature change, wasn't sure though the best way to test - as some go faulty and not just on open circuit.. So basically - fire boiler up - turn off power, take temperature reading of pipe close to thermstor and check resistance reading.......

    Does the pump have a permanent live connection to it..... new system wired up correctly? As with a pump overrun the wiring is slightly different Run the boiler - after about 5-10 mins turn the stat to off - see if the pump still continues to run

    the aav cap should be left loose - not fully tightened check your expansion vessel charge as this if flat can cause the aav to leak a little (scale around it)

    Check the flame rectification probe (flame sensor) is OK and it's lead. Also make sure the burner port is clean and that the flame is not bent.

    JohnD, could the Type K be put on a rad and test for cold spots or for testing the temp of a boiler flow pipe then?

    JohnD, thanks for your help again :D So basically a type K isn;t for measuring thermocuples but for measuring temps!! So I plug the lead into the meter, touch a rad or pipe and it tells me the temp? Is that how it works? Holty - I am not gas safe registered, but just wanted to knw...
