Thanks for the quick reply tamz. The floor doesnt need to come up. The pump will be situated in the airing cupboard (upstairs) with the outlets from the pump going straight up into existing loft through the wall into new extension loft and then teeing off to toilet / basin shower at various...

New extension hot / cold feeds.

ok, done a load of research and i need some advice to clarify some points. Just built a new extension and am in process of plumbing new en-suite up. Because i don't want to rip up old floorboards and tap into exisiting services my idea is this. I am going to fit a salamander RHP75 whole...

    concealed cistern.

Hi, I'm currently fitting out an en-suite bathroom in my new extension, and have come across a problem. The en-suite will be 1100 wide and i need to fit a toilet across this width. The trouble I'm having is that the toilets with cisterns stick out too far. I only want it to stick out...

    Flat roof / balcony.

Ok. the extension shell is nearly done, roof is on and nearly finished (facias and guttering to do), now comes the flat roof / balcony. For those who need a background, I have built a 2 story extension which the back 2meters is only single story and the idea is to turn the flat roof into a...

    roof query

Just carried out exactly the same job. Cement Fibre Sheets 4' x 6" wide about a quid each from my local builders merchants. Make sure you get the non-asbestos ones, although don't know if they still sell asbestos ones or not. By the way aren't dry verge kits a great invention!!!

    Quote for bricklaying.

It's probably worth a try. Like I said, i'm not trying to screw anyone over. I have worked in the trade and know how hard it can be especially during bad weather. I guess I'm assuming that any work for cash, especially at the moment would be a big advantage. They have had quite a few weeks...

    Quote for bricklaying.

I'm afraid in my job if I have to work most Saturdays at normal pay (which I get taxed on). Dont forget the quote was for cash.

    Quote for bricklaying.

Before you start getting too judgemental. I never agreed any price with them. They came and did the footings @ £100 day each and then submitted a quote afterwards for the rest of the job. No aggrement was made that they would get the job and they were well aware of this when they did the...

    Quote for bricklaying.

I see what your saying about the work being more involved than the footings, but i don't think it's justified to double the price. If you take it that it'll be 6 days to do the job, then with 4 of them, then thats 24 man days. £4800 / 24 comes to £200 a day. After speaking to people in the...

    Quote for bricklaying.

Hi. I'm currently building a 2 story extension and have had a quote for the bricklaying side of it. It is for approx. 4200 facing bricks, 800 blocks, with insulation and four openings, standard catnic lintels. 1 gable end. Pretty straight forward. The quote has been from a team of 3...

    Garage Floor - Building Control

ok update. Building control came round and had a constructive debate (ha ha) with him. He eventually relented and agreed that a suspended floor was overkill for a garage, BUT...... Because the existing airbricks would now be inside the garage he insisted that I fit ducting under my new...

    Airbricks in cavity wall

yes, he has been out today to look at it and sure enough the airbricks do go down a telescopic into a void so must be beam and block. He has said he wants the existing airbricks to be channeled under the new floor and through the new external wall to vent in fresh air and not the garage for the...

    Garage Floor - Building Control

Thanks for the advice. The reason he gave behind it was water / damp invasion and not that the slab could be prone to movement from clay heave / shrinkage. He only bought this up because of the amount of water he could see sat on top of the clay. I will let you know how I go on. Again...
