Ceiling void clearance required for LED downlights

Thanks, that's why I'm asking. I'm cautious and don't want to get it wrong. They also have a large heat sink so I realise that they do generate heat but vastly different to the alternates and cool (well, warm... but not hot) to the touch. The ones I'm looking at are integrated LED units...

Ceiling void clearance required for LED downlights

The shallower ones are sealed units. They run cool to the touch so I'm hoping 20mm will be fine but wanted to check first.

Ceiling void clearance required for LED downlights

Thanks, I've looked at the paperwork (leaflets that come with) for a couple but they don't say. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

Ceiling void clearance required for LED downlights

I hope someone can give me some guidance on this. I plan to install 5 or 6 LED recessed downlights in a garden office I'm building. I'd like to use LED because of the fact that they're more efficient and some have a lower profile (as low as 50mm). This feature is especially attractive as my...

    Electric Supply for Garden Office

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I was looking at complete garden office kits that include everything (except base / foundation) sockets, wiring, lighting, CU. They (or I) assemble it and state an electrician will need to connect it to the house supply. The thing is that as my...

    Electric Supply for Garden Office

I'm in the process of building a garden office which will need an electricity supply for a couple of computers, printers etc (prob 4 double sockets in total) a 1kw panel heater as well as a lighting circuit. I would like to do as much as I can to save money where possible. I'm happy to...

Garden Office Wall Composition - Do I need Vapor Barrier?

I'm just trying to finalise the design and exact construction of the walls of a garden office. It's somewhat of an 'organic' process as I keep changing my mind or getting advice that changes the spec. This is what I have got so far - (outside to inside obviously): Western Red Cedar cladding...

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

Well, I managed to get a quote for £110 +vat per m3. As i need 1.1 it'll be £122 +vat So I'll be opting for that! Loads cheaper than the others I tried.

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

Okay, I've done my calculations now and the slab size eqates to 1.1 cubic meters. I think due to access and pricing local ready-mix I'm going to have to do it all myself in a mixer. What's the best way to work out the sand & cement quantities based on this?I'm happy with a 1:5 mix.

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

That's interesting and helpful, thanks. 100mm concrete it is then. I like the idea of using steel mesh in lieu of MOT T1 base which will save time, money and hassle. Will that definitely be suitable? Presumably it doesn't need to be in one single section?

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

Thanks for that, very useful. I was hoping to get away with not hiring a vibrating plate, perhaps that would be a false economy... shame. Excuse my ignorance here... would it matter that much if the slab did crack? I will be installing a floating floor on top so any slight variation wont...

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

Thanks for the info. I've just had a look but unless I'm way out on my sums - which isn't outside the realms of possibility! - It looks like it would be a more expensive option. 3m x 2.4m is £230 and I'd need something more than half as big again. The other issue is that my structure won't...

Concrete Base spec for Garden Office?

I've prepared / cleared the site for a 4m x 3.5m garden office. Just got a few questions, any help & advice would be very well received! I was planning to lay a concrete base for durability. Will I be best off laying hardcore / shingle first? I see wickes sell 'Granular Sub Base MOT 1 Jumbo...

New Project - Garden Office - Research Stage, Help Needed!

I appreciate that.. feel like a guinea pig! Here's my answers: 1)Devon 2)Town 3)Not sure as will have 2 PCs and the generate some heat (I very rarely have the heating on in the office I currently use in the house) 4)I'm hoping I will be able to achieve something for £2k - but until I have...

New Project - Garden Office - Research Stage, Help Needed!

Not my intention to anger you. I'm not sure how else to spell out where I'm coming from. Regarding not knowing what i want and not having a specific U value to work to... that's why I'm asking for guidance! You seem incapable of understanding my perspective or addressing any of the points...

New Project - Garden Office - Research Stage, Help Needed!

Thanks mointainwalker, i did get your point first time round. Here's my thought process. 1) looking at prefab kits available from various companies showed spec including foil backed PU insulation with a thickness of 45mm / 50mm+. So that was my starting point. I like the fact that its foil...

New Project - Garden Office - Research Stage, Help Needed!

Fair enough! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate any and all guidance. The situation is that I am trying to get as much info at this planning stage in order to quantify the materials, cost and design against benefits. I am flexible to some degree but need to weigh up the pro's and con's. I am...
