    Quote and then additions?

£1800 for rewiring the old house (standard 3 bedroom semi, circa 1960) - but that was a verbal quote through our builder which we accepted. Included in the quote for the new extension was an amount of £2200 for electrics. In addition we also paid £320 for smoke alarms, £220 for outside light...

    Quote and then additions?

I don't have any quote that specifically says that after rewiring, the light fittings, whether new or previous, will be replaced. Nor is the quote for the new extension so specific that it states how many light fittings will be fitted.

    Quote and then additions?

Engaged a builder to build the new extension - and the quote included the electrics. The electrician advised that we have the old house rewired - by him - and we agreed a price. Once completed the old house needed replastering and decorating and so aside from downlighters no light fittings were...

    Removing 24 hour old grout

Thanks BOBASD - you're right. It looks lovely. I'm getting used to it - and yesterday a friend stated it was exactly what she wants in her new bathroom.

    Removing 24 hour old grout

Thank you Keith. Was hoping that if it was removed within the first 24 hours it would be easier.

    Removing 24 hour old grout

I have the best builder and he has followed my instructions to the letter. I did not want grout as a decorative feature - my words! - and he has done exactly that. He has sourced grout that matches my tiles exactly. And tiled my new shower room. And done a great job. But I don't like it...

The incline of the condensate pipe

Thank you John - I might post more pictures later in the week if my boiler guys ever return to finish the job.

The incline of the condensate pipe

Thank you - so the advice is that I must maintain the fall by at least a 1/2 inch drop for every meter of pipe length. Okay that seems easy for an under floor pipe. Over the course of the width of the bathroom which is 1400mm the pipe must drop 25mm or 1 inch.

The incline of the condensate pipe

John, is that an average of 18mm fall per meter - or could it fall 600 mm immediately after leaving the boiler and travel 1400mm to soil pipe with no fall at all?

The incline of the condensate pipe

Hi Guys Is there a problem if I would like the condensate pipe to run from the new boiler cupboard in the right of this picture - under the floor boards - to join the soil stack or shower waste pipe - in the left of this picture. Is the incline sufficient to take the waste condensate away...

    Soil Stack alteration

Work being done this weekend - I am most appreciative of all your combined knowledge. If you didn't post this information here, I wouldn't know. I expect my guys will do what they call a 'proper' job. But there are lots of jobs ahead in this new extension and I need to be more knowledgeable.

    Soil Stack alteration

Thank you for all your replies - It is a lottery to replace something that may not need replacing at this particular point in time - but where the window of opportunity dictates that it may be now at a reasonable cost - or later at very great expense! I hate to spend money unnecessarily - as...
