    Powermax 155x Replacement

How could scale stop it firing ! It sounds very much like an electrode or PCB problem to me, as I've had this sort of problem with the same boiler in the past. They must of meant install another Potterton unit, not another Powermax surely ? I think at the end of the day BG will just want...

    Powermax 155x Replacement

Hi, It sounds like the PCB or electrode needs replacement, as ignition is not taking place ? I've had similar problems with this boiler. Be best to try and find an independant engineer who understands these units (which is easier said than done). Not many people will even come out to these...

Ok AlanE point taken. We live in the Ipswich area.

    Boiler Engineer

I understand the problems with getting an engineer to come out on these units. In the past I managed to find an engineer who worked on them, but he's not around anymore. I have a leak on the blender valve P757, which connects via three 15mm nuts. It's leaking from the bottom nut that connects...

    Boiler Engineer

Hi, Are there any decent boiler engineers in the Suffolk area, I need someone to look at my Powermax 185 boiler ! Regards,

Range Powermax 155x going to lockout

Hi, Please don't attempt to open it up, it could well be the electrode or maybe the gas valve which is causing the lockout ? You need a 'competent' Corgi registered tradesman. But prepare for a potentially frustrating time ahead, I advise you to contact an engineer and make sure you ask if...

    Powermax 155x

This seems a bit suspect to me. Be diligent and try and find an independant Corgi Engineer who is competent with this type of boiler (I know it's easier said than done) but that way you will be able to tell if BG are trying the old trick of wanting to install a new boiler, when its not...

    Powermax 155x

What parts are they saying are redundant ? BG may be telling you that in order to get a new boiler installation ! Engineers often say parts are redundant for Powermax boilers when they are not experienced enough in this particular boiler to repair them, its worth finding out what part is...

    Powermax 185 Buzzing

The buzzing remains, I got this once before but turned the boiler off then on again and it seems to cure it. Now its not intermittent and the buzzing remains whenever the heating is turned on, although the heating seems to be working fine regardless of the noise.

Now at my wits end with my Powermax!

Oh aren't these boilers bloody annoying !!!! I've got a prob with mine now, although very different to this. Obviously it wasn't just the blender valve then. I wonder whether it is not full of water in the thermal store and is cutting out ? Has it been drained recently at all ? These...

    Powermax 185 Buzzing

Hi, I've got a new problem with the Powermax 185, all works fine, but if you turn the central heating on now, a loud buzzing noise comes from what appears to be the programmer or possibly the PCB board. Any ideas on how to solve it ?

Now at my wits end with my Powermax!

OllyA, I still reckon its most likely to be the Blender Valve, as they are notorious for scaling up and subsequently fail and dont distribute the hot water properly, and you end up with luke warm water. Check the copper pipe vertical tee section above the blender valve, with the tap running...

Now at my wits end with my Powermax!

I reckon the poster means a Powermax 140, or possibly 185 thermal store.

Now at my wits end with my Powermax!

In my experience of Powermax boilers, I would say the most likely culprit is the Blender Valve Part No. P757. These scale up like hell and normally have to be replaced every 2 years or so, I'd make that your first port of call.

    Yet another Powermax 155x problem

I didn't have a problem with water pressure on mine, it just simply cannot produce enough hot water, so provides luke warm then cold water. It's most likely to be the blender valve that needs changing. If you don't have any ignition problems then it won't be the electrode or the PCB, which...

    Yet another Powermax 155x problem

First port of call for this issue on the Powermaxes is the blender valve (Part P757) as this is the main culprit for limiting hot water supply, as they get scaled up easily.

    powermax 165

Let me know how you get on with this one. Just to warn you, it can be a complete nightmare getting someone to look at these boilers, who a) is prepared to work on them at all and b) actually understands them enough to diagnose problems properly. If you take some photos of the unit with the...

    powermax 165

Can you post some photos of it on here ? I reckon you may have a blocked cold feed pipe from the header tank in the loft to the thermal store itself, as the pipe will only be 15mm diameter anyway. What might of happened is whilst draining the unit down some of the gunk that collects in the...

    powermax 165

Are you sure it's a Powermax 165 ? It sounds like you either have the 135 or 185 model. If the boiler overheats again and auto cuts out then it would suggest there isn't enough water in the thermal store. See how it goes. I had similar problems with my Powermax 185, initially with the...
