sorry that was cruel !

in the top of the unit there is an overheat trip small maroon button usually see if has popped out

Yeah, its a red button with a '+' on it. Just press the button to reset it. If it overheats again it will auto shut off, normally because the thermal store doesn't have enough water in it.

Are you sure it is completely re-filled ? The cold feed pipe could be blocked.

Thanks, found red button and it fired up, how do i check if the thermal store has enough water in it, header tank is full and all radiators have been bled

Are you sure it's a Powermax 165 ? It sounds like you either have the 135 or 185 model.

If the boiler overheats again and auto cuts out then it would suggest there isn't enough water in the thermal store. See how it goes.

I had similar problems with my Powermax 185, initially with the cold feed pipe being blocked, so when I drained and tried to refill it didn't get enough water back in the system, ended up re-routing a new cold feed into it.

thanks, it is a 185, need to put glasses on, has cut out again, going to get an engineer to look at it, getting beyond a simple diy repair job.

Can you post some photos of it on here ?

I reckon you may have a blocked cold feed pipe from the header tank in the loft to the thermal store itself, as the pipe will only be 15mm diameter anyway. What might of happened is whilst draining the unit down some of the gunk that collects in the header tank was drawn through the system, and subsequently blocked the 15mm pipe into the thermal store. Which can then obviously result in new water not being able to gravity fill the unit again.

Let me know how you get on with this one.

Just to warn you, it can be a complete nightmare getting someone to look at these boilers, who a) is prepared to work on them at all and b) actually understands them enough to diagnose problems properly.

If you take some photos of the unit with the front cover off, it may help to see whats going on.

Thanks, had engineer out today, tank was empty, guy knows what he is doing, specialises in powermax, had it sorted in 10 minutes, another 2 hours getting the tank filled and everything up to temperature.
