One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

It is for 7 sockets in a living room and study - with nothing that draws much. He said even if I needed to I could run a couple of Electric heaters.

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

That's an old armored cable (replaced when extension went in) Electrician came back to test, still had a neutral fault between last socket and CU. He worked out which wire it was on. Wire disconnected, now converted to a radial and downgraded MCB from 32 to 20. He said that was best.

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

Well it looks like I may have been running on a ring with a loose connection for a while. And a 2nd fault has caused a complete break in the ring. The electrician was able to locate the section and I remembered a screw down junction box under the floor (near the CU). So floor up, screw tightened...

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

Thanks, Electrician coming tomorrow morning. The MCB bus bar looks like its in (all screws tight) The Neutral Link connections all look ok too. There's only so much you can do with a lamp and a screw driver, but I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks again for the posts.

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

The CU has two halves - one DP switch and two rcds lights (up, down, extension), sockets (up, down, extension), boiler etc split over the two halves. It's just one MCB that relates to the set of sockets with the problem. everything else working fine.

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

When the lamp is turned off, the light comes back on. and yes if I plug anything into any socket on the same ring (and when I turn it on) the same happens. It never trips.

One Ring Failing - Anything I can check?

I have one mains ring that has just stopped working. It's a "new" 2010 installed CU (had an extension with new ring for new sockets). The old (downstairs) ring doesn't trip just has stopped working. I've included a pic of my extensive testing equipment. The fuse light is on the 4 way...

    Extending outdoor wiring

Wow, thanks for the replies. I was hoping for general concept can "one" tee off an existing swa cable to a new CU or should "one" come back down the garden from the garage CU. (mainly so I could get on with other gardening and have an idea for the general layout.) I see now there's a...

    Extending outdoor wiring

Thanks for the quick replies I like the idea of the resin tee joint kit (if I have enough play) the cable size is 4mm2. I think I'll make a wooden box\house for the pump and electrics. maybe with a http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Consumer_Units_Index/CM_Metal_Enclosures/index.html...

    Extending outdoor wiring

At the end of my garden I have a 3-Way RCD Garage Consumer Unit connected to the house cu with armoured cable (all working fine). We now need power half way up the garden for a pool pump and filter. My question is can I use an armoured cable 3 way junction box (half way up the garden) and...

    New base for Summer House

I've taken down our 6m x 4m summer house as the corners of the concrete slab had fallen away. The current plan is to break up the concrete and pour new concrete over the top then re-lay the bricks. I've a couple of questions: How small does the broken concrete have to be and should it be...

skil 3600 Flooring Saw - alternative?

I'm installing an engineered (oak) click and lock wooden floor at home and this tool seem to do everything I need but it's not available yet. http://www.skiltools.com/en/AllTools/Category/Product/default.html?pid=3600&cid=36[/url] I'd rather not buy a table saw for ripping - so can I buy...

    Ground floor piping

Can I lay plastic piping (with 25mm climaflex insluation) directly on to the ground under a timber floor? I can go through gaps in the sleeper walls at ground level. I can't go through the joists as the (new) floor insulation doesn't leave enoigh space. Grateful for any help. Thanks.
