Preparing new stud/solid wall & ceiling for plaster skim

Hi, I plan to outsource the plaster skim. I'll plasterboard the ceiling and the wall. I'll use TE board so it joint tape is hidden and it just needs a minimum skim. Normally I would dryline tape and joint but there is too much to do so having it plaster skimmed seems the quickest and the...

Kitchens - dryfit cabs, access panels

Hi, I'm looking at new kitchen with assembled units. I can opt to have these dryfit which is to say not glued. I can then take them apart on site to cut holes etc.. Will I need sash cramps to glue these up when I have finished? 4? Or can I just stand them on end with a weight on them? Or...

Pushfit mix and match - conflicting advice

So floplast are changing their hot and cold pushfit fittings it seems and so screwfix have stopped selling them and are running down old stock. A PITA since I have a project on the go which has used floplast. I have reels of pipe but needed some more fittings for next stage - no joy. Hence I...

Screed or concrete to raise shower tray?

There's not enough space. I need 40mm height, say 18mm OSB3 for platform then that is only 22mm under platform to floor and that needs to include a mortar bed for levelling too (floor surface is existing screed and a bit rough). Easiest solution is a cast base of some sort as then it is far...

Screed or concrete to raise shower tray?

I need to cast a platform to raise a ground floor shower tray to get the right fall. The waste pipe goes below floor level but I don't have enough fall with just that so I need to take the shower tray up. I think I'll need 40mm. Floor is old style so 100mm concrete with 50mm screed. I'll pre...

    Shower tray unstuck

So I've done some tests. Concrete on damaged tray is solid so I'm maligning the trays unfairly. Walked around on the trays, just in socks of course, while wife looked at the crack. No sign of crack getting wider when I go to the back or the middle. Only change is when I load the very front...

    Shower tray unstuck

Yes the chipboard floor is screwed and glued. Spacejoists are 72mm wide so a lot of surface for the glue and the screws were tite type. Joists are 400mm centres, chipboard 22mm. Proper wood glue too. AFAIR there are some noggins too. One tray starts about 0.3m from joist support wall so not...

    Shower tray unstuck

Good idea I'll try that. Spacejoists were to allow pipe runs under the floor, not especially long runs. Run is under 4m. I've also though that the edge I can see is edge where the mortar squeeze out so as I was tapping it level the open edge would less compacted than the rest. I used a...

    Shower tray unstuck

Hi, I'm fitting a stone resin shower tray, well 3 to be precise. Maker says bed on 5:1 which is what I have done. I had some waterproofer around so I added a bit of that for workability and to make the mortar waterproof which seemed a good idea (given I had the waterproofer). Maker said 8mm...

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

FYI I managed to get a copy of this circular via a Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government which took over this DoE function. And in answer to the other comment you don't know my neighbours or my planning department......

    Options for raising shower tray?

2.1 x 18 = 37.8mm which I've rounded to 38mm but it will likely end up a bit higher just to be sure I've above the limit. Tray is made by premier. Hmm, I'm a cynic and I think if I didn't follow the instruction then they would wriggle out of a claim. Shower trap is rated at 42l/min and this...

    Options for raising shower tray?

Yes I need to raise the tray level to get the waste fall and the trap height. I'm already joining below floor level, into to a soil manifold. That is concreted in so I'm not digging that out. With a knuckle bend my pipe centre line is 59mm below floor level. I have 2.1m run at 18mm/m so that...

    Options for raising shower tray?

Hi, This is a ground floor bathroom with a concrete/screed floor. I need to raise the shower tray by 50mm to get the minimum fall. Tray manufacturer say min 8mm of sand/cement under tray so that is 42mm. If I use a 18mm OSB3 base that is 24mm to floor. Could I scree 24mm and then set the...

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

You can apply for a lawful development certificate on the basis that the condition is void due to it being invalid. You can then appeal a refusal of the LDC. That's how you gate around the time issue.

    Shower tray manufacturers?

Kudos was a new name to me but their 1000x900 quadrants have the drain in the same position as the mira which clobbers the joist. Thanks anyway.

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

Not sure I understand your point. Lots of things get reviewed many years later if they are found to be handle wrong or even criminally. In case my question was does anyone have a copy of DoE 1/85. I been asked why and explained. If you don't like the explanation well ok, your prerogative to...

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

As I said, the condition says gate entrance must be stopped up as per approved plans. The plans say block entrance with matching stone. Hence the condition is that a wall at the gate entrance must exist and must be like the existing wall at that time. The removes the PD rights for that...

    Shower tray manufacturers?

Hi, I'm having problems getting a decent shower tray, that is one that isn't damaged from factory! I need 4 all told, first 4 weren't made right. Next 4 delivered only 1 was unmarked and most of the damage looks to be from the factory as it is in areas unlikely to be due to transporting and...

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

OK, in detail then, the plans had a note to the builder, block up gate opening to match existing wall. These 1st plans had a garage in front of this opening, garage was moved in 2nd plans but note remained. Note was converted to a planning condition, hence planning condition says that the...

Copy of DoE Circular 1/85: The use of conditions in planning permissions?

Yes I know how long ago it is. And yes I could apply for planning permission but LDC is cheaper isn't it? 50% of planning fee if you ask in advance. The removal of PD rights wasn't the direct intention, the wording was just poor and this is the effect. In fact the whole thing was a total...
