    Sizing problem?

Hi there, I would just like to clarify something in regards to sizing a newly plastered wall. I did this without reading up properly and I don't want to cause myself too much agro down the line. I sized the plaster with a normal mix of wall paper paste - not a watered down version of this...

Building regs to replace a garage

Sorry I have no idea. I doubt there is an easy way to check other than asking the water company? There are two manhole covers there by the way.

Building regs to replace a garage

Hi there, We have bought a house that has a concrete block garage (with asbestos roof :x ) I would like to get rid of this garage and replace it with a flat roof going from the wall of the house to the big boundary wall that you can see in the photo - it stretches from the top of the...

Heat control - most efficient way?

Many thanks for the replies. I like the idea of a wireless room thermostat. It is a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 837 (I will confirm this 100% later) if anyone knows of a thermostat that will plug and play. Thanks again, Jack

Heat control - most efficient way?

Hi all, We have bought a house (3 bed, 30s semi) that has a 10yr old Vaillant combi boiler - it does not have a room/hallway thermostat - just the dial on the front of it. We chose to leave it on 24/7 at one temp (about 1/3 of the dial) with all the necessary rads on full. I am going to...

Adding a socket to a ring

Thanks - that should not be a problem - it is a newish CU and has (I will double check) the 30mA RCD. Jack

Adding a socket to a ring

Hi, I need to add a socket to a ring. I have located the wire but there is no slack on either side - it will become the first socket off the CU. Are there any sockets out there that have the wires connect at the ends (in one side and out of the other) rather than both meeting in the middle...

    Flood lights - switch

Ah, the feed comes from the garage and the switch is in the house. It was the easiest way to source the power. It could have just been a wire from the garage fuse box (which has an old style 16a fuse (mini metal fuse box) and is connected to a B16 on a new CU in the house) to the house but I...

    Flood lights - switch

Sorry, I posted as you wrote this. The neutral and earth come from the FCU.

    Flood lights - switch

OK, I will do just that. Just a query then - where would a double pole switch be suitable?

    Flood lights - switch

Yes, that is how it is at the moment. I don't have a pic but basically, live from the fused spur comes in to the switch and L1 is live to light 1 and L2 is live to light 2. Shall I just put the L2 in with L1 leaving L2 empty? Thanks, Jack

    Flood lights - switch

Hi, I have installed a pair of flood lights (2x twin 42w) but they are on a 2 way switch so only one has power at a time. I would like to have both with power (they each have a PIR) so is a 1 way switch suitable for connecting the two? I don't think there is any necessity for a double pole...

    Loose plaster and cement behind

Looking forward to getting stuck in to this. A photo of the exposed brickwork and previous repair job that was hidden by wallpaper:

    Loose plaster and cement behind

Many thanks. I will be doing this with help from my Dad who has plastered a fair few times over the years so hope now to make too much of a mess. Regards, Jack

    Loose plaster and cement behind

Hi Joe, Many thanks. Could you just give me a quick guide on what to apply to the bricks. I am thinking of a pva then mortar to bring it up the level of the existing and then finish with a layer or two of multi-purpose. Jack

    Loose plaster and cement behind

Hi, On our new house (new to us anyway) we have started stripping back the old wallpaper - it is coming away well but so is some of the plaster and the sand/cement behind. I am tempted to get a plasterer to fix it up and make it a nice flat paintable surface however money is a little tight...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

We are very tempted by this. Compact and cheap. I could plug the Scalextric transformer in to this and run it and have a car battery as a backup: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-720w-petrol-generator-g720

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

As these days go...actual track usage time will not amount to too much. Assume each lap is 20 seconds. 5 laps per person with lets say 150 people (over estimating - we don't know the foot fall of the events yet) - that will equate to 4 hours use which still sounds over the top! Thanks, Jack
