Triple X boiler silencing additive, does it work?

Thanks. Installation is 25(ish) years old, still with original Ideal WLx RS50. In colder weather there is sometimes an increase in boiler noise, generally an intermittent whistling. It's annoying more than anything, I've fixed it previously with Sentinel or Fernox silencer additive, generally...

Triple X boiler silencing additive, does it work?

No connection to the product other than as a possible purchaser. Seems very cheap, £6 for enough to treat 100 litres. I generally use Sentinal or Fernox, but this stuff is about 1/3 of the price. I can then spend the difference on beer if it works. But does it work?

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

OP wants value for money, a fair contract and a trustworthy contractor who does what he says he is going to do as per contract. What's so wrong with that?

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

Not with BG, the clause from the BG contract was used to demonstrate weasel words. But good to see that you still read it and reply, thanks I don't particularly want to take out a contract with BG. If I do take out a contract I want it to be fair contract, ie no running away from problems by...

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

Not at all, I just want a fair contract, what's wrong with that? No problem with clauses, as long as they are fair. So no running away when some engineering skills are called for. I just want contractors to do what I pay them to do, is that too difficult? No problem with a company making a...

Homeserve offer £90 a year, but there are weasel words and feeble excuses.

Thanks, but is it not possible to stitch repair the cast iron?

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

Thermocouples cost me £3.50. Oddly enough, my garage has 4 cars, 3 of which are pre-1987, they have their issues but all repairable even though the original manufacturers are long gone. If anything, car number 4 (a modern common rail diesel) is the vehicle that might be uneconomical to repair...

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

Where do I say that I want BG to replace the boiler? Contractually they won't because it's over 7 years old. What I want to do is to pay someone to insure it against breakdowns but I don't want them running away with my money and using weasel words to claim that it's impossible to repair...

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

The risk is that if I take the BG contract and something goes wrong then they might claim that it's impossible to repair and it's over 7 years old so they walk away from it.

Why not? Might cost a few shekels .... oh I see.

    1987 Ideal WLx, maintenance contract?

Hi Boiler has served the house well over the years, three thermocouples and one gas control valve since 1994. Must be about time something expensive went wrong, are there any maintenance contracts that will cover this fine appliance without the usual weasel words of "beyond economic repair"...

Thanks for the quick replies, seems pretty clear!

Condensing boiler plume, acidic or not?

Hi I'm looking a definitive answer, so where better to ask than here!? There are those_who_should_know who tell me that the plume is just water vapour, but there are also those_who_should_know who tell me that is mildly acidic because it contains other products of combustion (oxides of...

CH system, replace Grundfos, clean and treat?

System drained, Sentinel X400 cleaner added, refilled, bled, noise/vibration problem has gone, although slight vibration of the pump. I'll leave the cleaner in for a couple of weeks, then drain ,flush (with hose) and add Sentinel X100.

CH system, replace Grundfos, clean and treat?

TrickieDickieBluenose, "popping" boiler has been a recurring problem, but we live in a hard water area (is that relevant?), probably 50% of similar boilers on our small, select estate(?) have been changed, and several hot water tanks. Our system is on every day, but 80% of the rads are...

CH system, replace Grundfos, clean and treat?

If there's crap in the system then draining is good. If Tesco sold oil that complied with BMW's spec then yes. Oh alright, it's no, because to buy it would mean that I had visit a Tescos. I run a TVR on oil bought from Costco, no engine problems .... although there are other problems :(

CH system, replace Grundfos, clean and treat?

Missed the intervening posts! How many drains: Perhaps 5 times in 15 years, 1st drain = to fit TRVs, 2nd = to add additional radiator on ground floor (I can't work quickly enough with frozen pipes!), 3 off because the boiler was "popping". Drained, partially refilled, added cleaner, completed...
