    Unusual spanner thingy.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Not sure as to whether it is steel plate but it weighs around 7oz (200g) so I guess it could be cast iron. The dimensions are: Length:150mm Hex ring spanner: 24mm Open end width (wide): 20mm Open end width (narrow): 10mm

    Leaking showerhead despite attempted remedies.

Good ideas, PTB. I'll try those suggestions, even replacement if the other two fail. Cheers. :)

    Leaking showerhead despite attempted remedies.

Yes, I did notice that the handset tail seemed rather short. I did try fitting an extra washer but it was not successful. My washer-kit does seem to have rather thin items, though, perhaps I will try to obtain something a bit chunkier. I don’t think the handset is cross-threaded but good point...

    Leaking showerhead despite attempted remedies.

No, it is definitely a washer. :?

    Leaking showerhead despite attempted remedies.

A showerhead leaks from the threaded hose connection. I have tried replacing the original rubber washer with the same and a fibre version but all to no avail. The leak persists. Anyone have a clue as to what the problem might be? The showerhead is one of those cheapish looking chrome plastic...

    Identifying manufacturers of shower bar?

I am trying to identify the manufacturers of a thermostatic shower bar which is leaking at the shower head as it is unable to be fully turned off. There is no obvious logo other than a set of markings on the supply control on the left of the bar: a set of tilda-like symbols that denote the...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Blimey, that's worrying. :? Actually the store I was in usually sells all of the adhesives that you specified but none were available last week. This seemed to be the same case at several other outlets. Is it possible that there is surfeit of rubbish material has come on to the market...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Unfortunately I have been a bit delayed in getting this job complete. I should mention that I started the tiling using a Mapei adhesive (which I have used before), but upon running out I replaced this with a tub of Vallance Suregrip – Mapei, Webber and Bal were not available at any of the...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Richard, when it comes to the section of cut tiles in the internal corner should I remove the other cut tiles on the adjacent wall and retile here so that they meet more accurately? That is to say recut these tiles so that they join the tiles on the main wall properly. Otherwise the tiles on...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

The Maxifix looks pretty similar to the Aquapanel tape, except it is 48mm x 90m compared to 48mm x 20m. That said, I think I will pick up a roll from B&Q. Once the tape is up do I need to use a filler to seal the tape or can I just rely on the tile adhesive for this? Thanks for the tip re...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Just another couple of questions, Richard. You said in your earlier post: I am only using 150mm square tiles, about 5mm thick. The area will be covered by only be 4 and a bit tiles across. Surely I can set more than 1 row of tiles in place on the fixed battens? I was hoping to set about 10...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Just to clear up that earlier misnomer. It wasn't Duckboard , it was Dukkaboard. Evidently this is pretty similar to Marmox. Anyway, as ever, a question or three: 1. The wall to be tiled is 1,850mm x 650mm. The Dukkaboard panels are 1300mm x 600mm. The total surface area of the wall...

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

That’s great, thanks. I will be using this over a solid wall (breezeblock). With regard to my original question about fixing battens, I assume that I can screw through the Marmox board for the battens without damage?

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Sorry, Richard, that's the wrong name. I think the name is Marmox and these are the washers . Seem acceptable?

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Well my local store only tends to stock Duckboard, so I would prefer to go for this. I think this is the correct name – it’s the green stuff that requires those special washers for it to be fixed to the wall. Does this sound acceptable?

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

Just one other question, please. The said wall is at the tap/shower end of the bath. Two copper pipes run up inside this wall to a shower bar. Is it best to fix a backerboard to the wall for the tiling or should WBP plyboard be used? Thanks, again.

How to accurately fix battens to a solid wall.

You're quite right, I was referring to a solid wall and, yes, I do require the battens for a r/angle corner. But tictic's tip of using the Fischer screws sounds good as these would provide a degree of scope for fine-tuning the batten correctly. If I have failed to grasp something please let me...
