    Got the beads off - a bloody good fit but nothing that a soft mallet and blunt 2" chisel couldn't sort. They come away laterally - towards the centre of the glass - not towards me as I first thought. Now I've got accurate measurements I can price up a replacement.

    My money is on one or both of the dimmers being knackered when you put energy savers in there, seeing as you need suitable dimmers specifically for the energy savers. As riveralt said, change one, then both of them for normal 2-way switches to see which, or both, of them are knackered.

    These guys do what you need; http://www.wrightsmachinery.co.uk/ They have various sizes - from massive, to bench-top to drill powered. I have a drill powered one for stripping all my waste and pulled cable from re-wires etc...
