Simple answer - he's an idiot! :shock: You can't run a fan from a Lutron Rania dimmer - it can't control a motor. I fit a lot of Ranias - have them all over my house too. Get him back to either a) swap it for a non-dimmer switch to control both light and fan or b) separate fan and light...

Got the beads off - a bloody good fit but nothing that a soft mallet and blunt 2" chisel couldn't sort. They come away laterally - towards the centre of the glass - not towards me as I first thought. Now I've got accurate measurements I can price up a replacement.

My money is on one or both of the dimmers being knackered when you put energy savers in there, seeing as you need suitable dimmers specifically for the energy savers. As riveralt said, change one, then both of them for normal 2-way switches to see which, or both, of them are knackered.
