Is Window problem related to K-Rend?

Still looks very much like rust marks - obviously they wouldn't have shown right away only when the tiny metal fragments started to rust, so the issue could have been present for some time before it was noticed. Did they have to grind some beading for the rendering? Something else long before...

Is Window problem related to K-Rend?

They look very much like rust marks - was any grinding done near those windows, or anything else that would have scattered small metal fragments like that? As for removing not sure if you could use a clay bar like you would to try and get similar "fall out" off car body work, although if it's in...

    Installing Blum Hinges

Thanks all - I'll go with 5mm I think - a little more "meat" round the hole but still enough adjustment I think for alignment. I did find a slightly friendlier version of the tables on another site that was a little easier to interpret, but it is very reassuring to have what I thought I...

    Installing Blum Hinges

I have purchased some Blum Hinges for overlay doors - model no 71B3550 - soft close. I have 18mm thick doors, and 18mm thick cabinet carcass to mount them to. I am struggling to understand what offset I need to use to drill the hinge hole in the door! I have a jig etc, but when looking up the...

    Cornice for cabinets

Hi - I am after something a bit more ornate - I guess a bit like wooden coving. It seems a lot less prevalent here than perhaps the US where they love their crown mouldings. Something like this :

    Cornice for cabinets

I am building some alcove cabinets either side of a chimney breast. I want to finish the tops with some decorative cornice. Ideally MDF, but if not softwood is fine as it will all be painted. Traditional sort of style moulding. I am having real issues finding any suppliers of suitable product -...

    Junction box for moving socket

Actually that is a great shout about pulling the cables - removes them completely out of the way of the rad. Thanks for the suggestion of the JB - ordered!

    Junction box for moving socket

Thanks both. I don't mind fitting a blanking plate actually, it's a column radiator so won't see much behind it, amd the wall will be white anyway. Regarding zones I can run up the wall, across and then down again. A bit of the ceiling is down anyway near the area I want to move it to. So...

    Junction box for moving socket

I need to move a double socket in my kitchen as we are changing the layout and a tall radiator will be going directly over where it is currently. I want to move the socket about 2 metres to the left of its current position. Existing socket is on the ring, so in my head the plan is to use a...

    Patching hole in ceiling

Thanks for that. Sorry a few follow up questions. What's the best tool to smooth it out, is it better to get some sort of straight edge that is a little wider than the overall hole width so I can follow the existing ceiling? Do I need to seal the plasterboard before applying? Looking at the...

    Patching hole in ceiling

I have had to cut out a hole in the plasterboard in my kitchen ceiling due to damage from an old leak. Hole size is just under 2 x 3 ft. I have trimmed back to the nearest joists so I have something to fix to, and secured new edges of existing plasterboard. I have also taken off the plaster...

Filler for render holes / cracks

Thanks - the Metolux looks promising, assuming I can work fast enough!

Filler for render holes / cracks

We have a rendered section at the front of the house - there are a few small holes from removed cable clips that I need to fill, and also a few thin cracks (1 - 2mm) on a face which I think are thermal related as that aspect gets a lot of sun. What is the best filler to repair small holes and...

Next steps to becoming a qualified electrician

Hi - it is ProCat college in Basildon. Appreciate any further suggestions - thanks in advance for asking Mrs S. Have posted on local Facebook groups, got a single response. Sent approx 70 emails to local firms with CV and got a few sorry but good luck responses.

I have started a "conversation" - is that a PM on this site?

Next steps to becoming a qualified electrician

Thanks - the college careers dept were a bit flaky to say the least - they promised a great deal and delivered very little - all of the lads that finished at the same time as my son are struggling with most of them taking jobs in unrelated areas such as fast food joints. They were suggesting...

Next steps to becoming a qualified electrician

Be really grateful for anyone in the trades advice with this please.... My youngest son has been to college and completed Level 2 & 3 Electrical Installation course. He also then got his ECS card. He did then have a trainee level job for about 4 months working with a local guy. Mostly working...

Brick BBQ with cupboards - DPM?

What about using another old fridge as your cupboard - it's insulated and air tight - you could put a nice rustic door in front of it, or even directly onto it if you could get a built in appliance. If you are leaving crockery and cutlery outside, would you want to use it direct from an outdoor...

Connect modern 40mm waste to older pipework

The issue I have is that the pipe that goes into the floor (already tiled!) is the older diameter so at some point it will have to connect to that. I have managed to find some markings on one of the old elbows : Osma 5Z160 90 deg ABS - just googled and that linked to a Wavin product on Travis...

Connect modern 40mm waste to older pipework

I bought the Floplast compression coupler from Screwfix - obviously it's a lot tighter on the new pipe than the old. Even with it done up as tightly as possible I can force the old thinner pipe to move albeit it's not loose as such - think it's going to be watertight?!!
