    CONNECT TO BASKET STRAINER

Thank you flameport for your comprehensive reply. I'm sure you're absolutely right about using new fittings and pipe - start with a clean sheet so to speak. By the way the Insinkerator is at least 20 years old! - I believe this is past its normal life but it still works well and doesn't leak at...

    CONNECT TO BASKET STRAINER

Thanks for your advice. I’m fairly sure it’s a 90mm dia. sink waste. The WD is an Insinkerator and I’m fairly sure there’s no internal trap – not least because there’s an external P trap! In any event I intend to dispense with the WD. But my fundamental question is the connection to a new...

    CONNECT TO BASKET STRAINER

Thanks for your quick response, you would probably be right normally BUT I have a waste disposal unit at the moment which I intend to abandon. And I'd still like to know the various fittings that can connect to a strainer basket and allow me to continue with 40mm compression fittings ie T29, T12...

    CONNECT TO BASKET STRAINER

Thank you for your advice. I've seen McAlpine P traps with adjustable inlets which would presumably be suitable? But in my case I wanted to use the existing trap which is some distance away so I'd need a short length of vertical pipe and a bend or two to reach it. I thought a tailpiece was...

    CONNECT TO BASKET STRAINER

Hi - I want to replace my sink basket strainer. Can someone advise me what fitting I use at the lower threaded section of the strainer so I can continue off in 40mm plastic pipe and fittings to my existing trap. I've seen the fitting used but I don't know what it's called - basically a plastic...

CAR BATTERY - WHAT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY??

Thanks for your interest. No, the battery wasn't returned, but having mentioned it registered 6V the supplier and warranty firm immediately said that a reading lower than 10.6V voids the warranty. I didn't check the voltage after the initial charge but it must have been fine as I started the car...

CAR BATTERY - WHAT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY??

Unfortunately I didn't have any choice as my car was not road legal at the time and I anticipated the MoT in a few weeks. It was a procedure I'd done before without any problem. I ran my car for about 10 minutes in which time it was up to temperature. Of course many people use their cars for...

CAR BATTERY - WHAT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY??

Thank you for all the replies. I did not "regularly" start the car but just 5-6 occasions over a 2 month period before the battery failed. The battery was disconnected each time so a parasitic leak seems unlikely. And my car had started immediately first time - I would not expect this to "deep...

CAR BATTERY - WHAT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY??

I bought a Yuasa 12V 45Ah car battery on 30th May 2023 for my Toyota Corolla from a major supplier on a major selling site (I won’t name names but there isn't many) . This is the same brand fitted to the car when new which served me well for many years. On receipt I charged the battery as...

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

That's one solution and I did see some more elaborate fixes in much earlier posts. I did find a few lanterns under hilo PIR as mentioned earlier but they seemed quite pricey. Actually I could simply get a dawn to dusk light and take advantage of my neighbour's motion sensor! - we have adjoining...

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

Thanks for that. I checked your link and it seems that particular model only comes on at dusk when it detects any motion (powerful enough to illuminate a football pitch!) and after a short while it goes off. Yours is probably a more refined model?

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

Very true, fish & chips is almost a luxury now - about £10 at my local chippy.

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

I did a search as you suggested and found a few suppliers. Hilo PIR lights seem very expensive (£60-90) vs normal dawn to dusk models (£20-30) - there was me thinking modern technology was as cheap as chips!

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

DAWN TO DUSK PLUS MOTION SENSOR LED BULB:

I believe this question was raised 15 years ago but technology has moved on! My neighbour has an outside wall-mounted security lantern - it comes on at dusk and off at dawn. But additionally, after dusk, if it detects motion the light increases in brightness for a short time. I can't find such...

    ALTERNATIVE EXTERNAL WOOD FILLER:

I’ve been using some well known 2-part fillers on external timber. I’m aware of the fast setting time but the problem I’ve found is that if I try to fill the back of a crevice the filler is just too “gooey” to push back and then very quickly changes to an almost unworkable state. Can anyone...

    ASBESTOS DISPOSAL COST (garage roof)

For anyone with a similar query, my neighbour asked a licensed contractor to quote for his garage roof replacement (our garages are paired). They don't bag up the asbestos but take it directly to a facility in Swindon - I believe the charge is £350. They replace the roof with metallic sheets...

    ASBESTOS DISPOSAL COST (garage roof)

Thanks jeds, that was my original question. How much would I save if I arranged disposal vs (probable high?) costs a builder would have to pay? Regards.

    ASBESTOS DISPOSAL COST (garage roof)

No, as I said my Council won't accept it but have a tie-up with the Corporation of London who will collect it provided it's double-wrapped and taped up. By the way I think my Council has been bankrupt 3 times, surprised they haven't spotted a money earner.

    ASBESTOS DISPOSAL COST (garage roof)

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I'm hoping my son will help me with my garage (he did volunteer). But it will probably take longer than 2 hours, nothing in my house has ever been straightforward! I don't think H&S is misplaced with asbestos - it's generally acknowledged to be dangerous...
