John Lewis integrated washing machine - loud rumbling

Seems to be rumbling while filling and washing but not spinning. Drum rotates freely in both directions. Could it be to do with heating the water. Maybe will try on a cold wash and see.

John Lewis integrated washing machine - loud rumbling

We have the above which is about 15 years old. It has recently started to sound quite loud - rumbling sound during the wash cycle. Sounds normal when spinning. Still washing everything very well. I have checked the filter - clean. No unusual sound when spinning the drum manually when empty...

Exhaust / burning smell when car stopped

A few weeks ago we could smell exhause in the interior of the car (Vauxhall Corsa, petrol, 2008). The garage diagnosed a split hose and that has now gone away. Now we smell a distinct burning / exhaust smell when getting out of the car - seems worse on the passenger side and from the boot area...

    Bathroom pull switch

After 20 years the pull switch in the bathroom has stopped pulling. The room is internal and the pull switch controls both the light and an extractor fan. The fan can be isolated with a switch outside of the bathroom. Have unscrewed it - nothing obvious just 3 wires - green and yellow from...

    Froststat and 3 way valve

Sorry cant do a pic at present but Froststat is by the boiler. The electrics come down the wall from the airing cupboard with the programer into the froststat and out of the froststat into the boiler. Definitely no pipestat. The froststat I think is a throwback to an older boiler. Last night...

    Froststat and 3 way valve

We have Vaillant boiler (not combi) in Garage with a Honeywell Froststat. All working with heating on more or less all night at present as so cold. Want to get a pipestat fitted but plumber to busy at present. Just want to clarify operation of froststat please. So heating on all day via...

    Bringing Radiator back into use

We have a room that has been unused and the radiator unused for about 10 years. It was turned off at both the TRV and lockshield ends but was never drained. I want to bring it back into use - can I just open lockshield and reset TRV and should this be done with boiler off. Don't want to...

All sockets went off this morning

Many thanks for replies. Will clean out toaster. Not sure about water as everything seems very dry and no rain about. Boiler is in the garage next to consumer unit but that is working as expected. We did have to have a new Froststat a few weeks ago (in garage, next to boiler) - but that was a...

All sockets went off this morning

Just getting breakfast and all sockets (not lights) went off. Took a look at the consumer unit in garage and all individual switches in the 'on' position. The large black one in the centre had tripped. Reset that and all seems to be OK and then resumed breakfast. Each appliance (toaster, kettle...

Have I got a problem with froststat

Agree with all that but question remains - is a broken Froststat likely to be the cause of the original problem.

Have I got a problem with froststat

It seems that all the electrics go though the Froststat. It would seem that disconecting it would cause the boiler to fire continually....

Have I got a problem with froststat

Thanks for replies. Yes, as I understand it the boiler does have built in protection. The froststat was left from a previous boiler that didn't. No wireless thermostat just an old fashioned one in the hallway and TRV's on all of the rads bar one. Heating comes on regardless of time clock...

Have I got a problem with froststat

A few weeks ago we woke to find the heating on (gas with Vaillant EcoTec boiler in garage). The weather was very mild. Plumber came and said it was likely the 3 port valve in the airing cupboard. Changed it but made no difference. Also changed the drayton timer unit - also made no difference...

    Fitting Envirovent Extractor

A plumber replaced a Silavent extractor with a basic Manrose extractor a couple of years ago. This has packed up and I have invested in an Envirovent model with a 5 year guarantee. Given that it looks like a case of connecting just 3 wires I want to do it myself. It is the type that comes on...

    Laying Quick Step Vinyl planks

We have a laminate floor in our bedroom that we don't like. In particular the beading as the skirting was not lifted to lay it. We would like to replace it with Quick Step Livyn Vinyl planks or similar as it seems like it could go straight on top of the existing laminate which is totally flat...

    Lukewarm radiator

Thanks - not sure I understand what this means. I would only add that we live in one of 6 identical town houses all with the same radiator configuration and boiler. None of the others have the same issue. To a laymen it seems odd that fully heated water gets to the entrance of the rad but very...

    Lukewarm radiator

The boiler is a Vaillant EcoTec Plus 630. It is in the garage which is on the same level as the lukewarm rad in the kitchen. It also has a Magna Clean by the side of it.....

    Lukewarm radiator

Thanks for your replies. I am not sure what exact model the boiler is apart from the fact it is an EcoTec. Think it's best to get the rad off to have a look and get rid of the TRV as it's not really required anyway.
