Thanks for that. Anybody feel able to do a schematic diagram? Cheers.

    French light circuit wiring

Thanks for your reply. If the switching was double pole, I would have zero voltage at the light fitting when the switch was off. I have no wish to denigrate french electricians in general; just wish I understood why this one chose to do things as he did. It's neat enough, though.

Strange fault on low voltage desk light

Hi, I recently replaced the toroidal 50VA transformer in a low voltage desk lamp after the old transformer failed. The lamp unit is double insulated, and there is no earth provided. When I switch it on, I am aware of what I can only describe as a faint "buzzy" sensation when I touch the metal...

Two way switching on lighting circuit

Thank you for that. I will change the switch for a bog standard two way switch and see what happens.

Two way switching on lighting circuit

Hi, I've got a problem with a light fitting on my landing. The fitting has two way switching in the normal way and works. However, when the switches are in the off position, I have 40VAC across the low energy fluorescent bulb which is causing it to flicker. Obviously there should not be any...

    French light circuit wiring

Thanks for that. Unfortunately French wiring doesn't extend to sensible things like loop-in ceiling roses, so the wiring would have to be reversed at the consumer unit. I don't understand the colour coding either, it seems entirely random. Any ideas on the suitability of low energy compact...

    French light circuit wiring

Hello, I've just had a house rewired in France by a competent (so they said) local electrician, and I'm surprised to find that he's wired the lighting circuits by switching the neutral so that one side of the light fittings remains live at all times. This is apparently illegal (even in France)...
