Hi, I recently replaced the toroidal 50VA transformer in a low voltage desk lamp after the old transformer failed. The lamp unit is double insulated, and there is no earth provided.
When I switch it on, I am aware of what I can only describe as a faint "buzzy" sensation when I touch the metal parts of the lamp. When I turn it off, the sensation stops.
The internal wiring is in good condition, and I can see no obvious path for what feels like a small leakage of current. Is it possible that the replacement transformer could be inducing a voltage in the casing? I did, for reasons of space, remove a circular cast iron weight that surrounded the old transformer. Might this have soaked up any stray magnetism?
