You shouldn't get a shiny finish with Danish oil or any oil. It would mean you haven't sanded it down which means it's sticky and won't work anyway. Good luck with it. (I've been told from various professional sources that Danish oil is superior but totally up to you) :)

We used travertine tiles on our wet room wall, and welsh grey slate (recycled) roof tiles on the floor. The stone tiles look great - just make sure you've got the right coloured grout and adhesive as I've seen people pick up all sorts to go with light coloured tiles - it seeps through the back...

If you just want to paint the walls, give them a quick sand and then use high grade lining paper. You'll get a nice finish on the walls then and wno't have to worry about flaking. It's not expensive to put lining paper up and if you use thicker stuff (around £4 a roll for the 1400 guage stuff)...

Have to also add a good dose of bitter dark chocolate to it, a good squeeze of lime juice (fresh) and more garlic than you can shake a stick at. Mmm. Chilli. Might have to make some this week :D

We've used an angle grinder on our tiles and had no problems at all cutting them - even where they've had to be quite thin around the sides to accomodate the plug sockets for the kitchen (tiles only marginally larger than the socket box) Mind, the non-diydoughnut's a bit handy...

Try some PVA Uni-bond as well as the plaster? Uni-bond first then plaster when it's tacky/dry? (Just a thought...like I said, I'm no expert!)
