    Potterton Prima 80F - replacement

Hi Dippy Did you ever get your boiler replaced, and if so, I would be interested in what you chose? My 80F is over 20 years old and I am guessing will need replacing in the not too distant future. Like yourself, I need to do my own research rather than just take the first recommendation that...

Pottertom Prima 80F Pump Overrun Issue?

I am looking for some advice on an issue I have with pump overrun please. I am not a plumber, but I am an engineer, and like to troubleshoot things myself before calling in the experts. My Boiler (Potterton 80F) is about 20 years old but still in good working condition. The only issue with it...

New Mira Advance ATL Memory not working!!!

I had a 10 year old Mira Advance memory shower which started to fault, it worked OK for a few minutes and then went dead - no water or lights on unit. It did occasionally reset itself but the fault just came back. Rather than mess about with spares for a 10 year old model, I have brought a...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

I terms of trip testing, he used his equipment to apply different mA's to see when the RCD triped and the time in which it did so. He did this with the RCD's in place and his meter pluged into a wall socket. At 15mA, no trip was recorded on either RCD and at 30mA, both triped within an...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

The electrician visited on Monday as promised and Megga(?) tested all of the RCD circuits individually and also combined. Guess what, he found everthing to be exactly as expected! Both my old RCD and the new one also tripped as expected and within the correct time when under test...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

Still tripping as and when it feels like :x . Rather than butchering the CU myself to fit a second RCD which would atleast enable me to locate the guilty circuit, (but at the same time obliterate the certification that I have for the installation :!: ), I have made contact with another...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

Suffolklad, I saw the electrician today to ask his advice again. To be fair, I think he generally knows his stuff, maybe he had a bad day when providing the Protek CU and wiring it the way he did!! He did conceed that there are too many circuits on the RCD and that possibly the mA's are just...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

I have now moved both the cooker and immersion heater onto the non RCD side leaving 4 ring mains and the shower on the RCD side. This has left me with enough space to fit another RCD and split the load which will then hopefully enable me to isolate the faulty circuit / appliance.

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

AHHHHHHHHH!!! Just triped again at 21:17 (Sunday 7th May) My thoughts are to have to go for spliting the RCD circuit up into smaller, separate RCD circuits. Having removed the conservatory ring and outside shed power, I am back to what I had pre the new CU. I think that I am right in...

Thanks to all of you that are offering suggestions, it is most appreciated. To answer some of the questions- 1. I did suspect the kettle a while back and replaced it - it wasn't the kettle! 2. The electric shower is always turned off at the double pole switch. 3. There is deffinately no...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

Thanks for the responces. Firstly, there was never any problem before the new CU was fitted. There is currently no rectification work being carried out because we don't know what to rectify!. As far as weather etc is concerned, there is definitely no correlation, this is happening at...

RCD Tripping - Electrician can't help!!

Hi, sorry if this end up a little long but hopefully, with all the info, somebody may be able to help. Our house was built in 1995 and had fitted from new a 'Square D 10 way' consumer unit. However, we had a conservatory built in February of last year (2006) and at the same time I had my...

    cables in cavity

I had a 'Part P' qualified electrician to wire my conservatory earlier this year and after a little discussion, it was generally accepted that the wires need to be in plastic conduit with elbows ets down to sockets such that the cable doesn't touch the insulation. Initially he said he would...

Rain sensor for conservatory roof vent

I have two roof vents on a conservatory that have previously been operated by separate retractive switches. I have now replaced these with an electronic timed thermostat which works really well. They close when the temperature drops and open when it rises, and also stay closed all night. :D...

    Conservatory Floor Screeding

I have been let down by a floor screeder :x who should have laid a floor screed today for a newly built conservatory. Rather than waiting for another, I have decided to have a go myself with the help of a local builder on Saturday. The current state of the floor is as follows: 50mm...

Potterton Prima 80F Fan Cycling on and off

Thanks for the posts. I have checked the spark gap and it is OK to the specified requirements, but the sequence is stopping just before the spark anyway. When it does light, it does so on the first spark every time. I have also checked the fan, it is both clean and free. The sequence...
