prices quoted sound about right except if having new consumer unit then no need for seperate RCD for shower.

    5 Core SWA

Jake why not buy all 3 core, it's on same site and has to be cheaper than 5 core, still got N and 2 sw-lines..... use imho a 'pratley' 3way jb in 1st Gazebo which carries earth through and gives term for earth core of lights. see www.qvsdirect.com part #pr08042 (also available elsewhere) regards

    5 Core SWA

seems a bit ott to me. why not run a 3core to 1st one and link on to second one with 2core? As only running total of 4 lights common N's, SWA earths common anyway. one core sw-line to 1st set, other core to second set, just sleeve cores for correct use ie sleeve black in 3 core with...

    Red Twin & Earth

someone earlier said only the sounders need to be in fire cable, not so, used to be detectors could be in tw/e but not for many years. Also supply cables,26.1: "the integrity of the mains supply to the system is also regarded as essential, even though the system has a standby supply...

    Meter tail length

chri5, you are correct, but I find switch fuse has more room to terminate SWA! isolators tend to be a bit tight.

    Part P - Elecrtics Help - Please!

smoothcrm, as people have stated there are many issues here which from a registered leckies point are very annoying. In answer to your remark about all sparks having to be registered, only for domestic work! so presume your man is working in industry/commercial/maintenance field and not...

    Meter tail length

Get your registered leckie to change consumer unit to switch fuse, then run SWA to new prefered position. In this region REC say 3 meters between meter & first point of isolation, reason given is for emergency services if called to know where to isolate system without removing cut out fuse, the...

one for the pro's to debate...

A great mass debate! Surely the point is that regs require all circuits to be 'designed' but in order to save us all reinventing the wheel each time the IET have set out 3 standard circuits for us to reuse. Their statement is if you stick to the requirements of these designs no futher...

    Wot size wire?

sparky123, thats the reason in power stations they do it, mainly until cooled right down, then turn constantly at very low speed to prevent bending and 'stress reversals' due to weigth of shaft between bearings.

    Wot size wire?

interesting 'not-him-again' what you called Bruneling. In power stations the main generator shafts going through generator and turbine can be over 50m long and for reasons stated by several people have a very high geared small 'Barring' motor to constantly turn shaft when not running at speed...

    Wot size wire?

biggest I worked on 11kV, 14,600HP, drew 46,000A during start up Direct-on-line starting! non of yer star-delta noncy stuff. Had 8 of them driving circ. fan impellors in nuclear reactors, fun to do air gaps using 2ft long feeler gauges.. motors had standard size doors at each end for access...

    install electric hob and oven

sorry Steve but as coljack says diversity for a domestic cooker is 10A plus 30% of remainder (plus 5A if socket fitted). so,5773+7070=12843/230=55.8A, regs allow first 10A plus 30% of remaining 45.8 (13.74A) =23.74 + 5A if socket on plate= 28.74A so no problem on 32A supply. see OSG for...

    Electric heaters plug burned... question.

the burning is probably due to a loose connection in plug or socket. if both are changed all should be well. The current in the circuit is the same throughout, live & neutral carry the same load, voltage drops around the circuit not current. Just like a central heating circuit the volume of...
