Can I replace close-coupled cistern with a separate cistern?

Don't ask me why, but I'd really like to replace a close-coupled cistern with a separate cistern, which could be set further back and say 6" to a foot higher. Is this possible?

extra toilet, 10metres and 4 right angles to the soil stack

I want to fit a toilet, and the soil pipe will need 4 horizontal right angles and one vertical drop halfway along the length, 10metres away from the soil stack - That's the only logical way I can see to fit it. As long as I fit a few rodding points, will this work or do I need a macerator?

leaking toilet cistern from thread flats?

I know this topic has been covered extensively (!) before, but here's a new angle, I think... I fitted a close coupled cistern with an opella torbeck siphon (internal oveflow with dual pushbutton), & a new bracket + a big solid (not foam)doughnut washer -no leaks at first then the next day a...

    Squeeky Grout removal

Squeek asks how to mix up sugar solution to remove old grout from tiles. Quote from my earlier post: "...in case this helps anyone else whose excess grout hasn't completely cured yet (could be weeks after the job was done) -a couple of hours soak with a sugar solution softens the grout. Large...

    well-insulated short-circuit

I upgraded the lighting circuit to 2.5mm, seeing as I was insulating the ceiling. I copied the original layout, then I put up my plasterboard, fibre glass insulating wool, & for good measure battened & t&grooved over the plasterboard. Somewhere beneath all this there's a fault in the run...

    lengthy waste pipe

This could be fun... the missus wants an en-suite loo, & the pipe is a fair distance away. Could I get away with about 20' run to a vertical, then another run for about 15' , & round a corner to the pipe which is about another 10' away?

condensing boiler -how many btu, flue distance to window

I'm refitting our bathroom, & thinking of replacing the old immersion heater with a condensing boiler & putting some heating into this giant fridge. Yes I'd get it all certificated!!! -Can anyone tell me how to calculate the btu capacity so I buy the right boiler, & what the minimum distance...

siting an extractor fan in a flat-roofed bathroom

I'd be grateful for some advice on siting an extractor fan in my bathroom. I've a flat roof over, & the leaflet advises horizontal inlet & outlet through a soffit. I'm thinking of siting them vertically, going through a WIDE cavitied (about 8") wall -which I also want to insulate. Should I...

    wiring inside fibreglass insulated walls/ceilings

I see I shouldn't route my wiring (especially the 10mm for the shower) inside insulation -I was planning to clip it inside a cavity wall with fibreglass insulation) -I've just had the loft insulated & they've put a carpet of thick fibreglass all over the wiring. Now this is common practice I...

no roof felt under the tiles

The tiles of my roof are in reasonable condition (though quite old), but there's no felt beneath them, so when the wind blows around I get damp or wet joists & rafters. Does anyone know of an economical way of preventing leaks? I was thinking about spraying expanding foam at them, but would the...
