    App Controlled/Smart Room Thermostat Options

Yes, as I said previously I've got electrical issues with the system. I'll get that sorted when I have the boiler & rads replaced. I'm looking at replacing the stat for one with app control so I can switch on when I'm out as an interim measure. My sincere apologies for call the programmer a...

    App Controlled/Smart Room Thermostat Options

My 3 port valve failed a year or so ago (someone told me previously that could be the issue) and has been replaced but still have the issue. If my current room stat has control of the heating (irrespective of the control panel being on or off) then surely an app controlled stat would do the...

    App Controlled/Smart Room Thermostat Options

I've got an electrical issue with my heating in that the room stat switches the heating on even if it's off at the control panel so I'm unable to set a programme for it. I need to have my boiler and rads replaced (it's an old system) but this has got to wait a year or so until I have more cash...

    Bathroom Fan Replacement

Sorry, another fan question .... Replacing an old knackered fan which worked on a pullcord which runs from a separate isolating switch. I've had a Manrose XF100S given to me which I expected to be a straight swap but the wiring is 2 core and earth plus a single core and earth, therefore, I...

    A few newbie plumbing questions

Thanks oldbuffer and PBoD for the advice. With the bath taps, the feeds come through the wall at about 7-8" under the taps. Don't really want to get into rerouting the pipework at this stage as I'm just giving the bathroom a quick makeover and I'll be refitting it in 2 or 3 years after I've...

    A few newbie plumbing questions

After years of avoiding doing my own plumbing I figured it's about time I gave it a go so a couple of questions. First job it fit isolating valves to all my taps and toilets and renew my bathroom taps .... 1. Compression fittings / flexible hoses - are there any particular brands I should look...

Shower kW Rating on 32A MCB??

Hi all, I've moved into a new place and need to replace a leaky shower. The current one is 8.5kW (Triton T80i) and was about to order a 8.5kW replacement but had a quick look at the MCB and it's rated at 32A ... I was expecting it to be 40A! Assume I should go with 7.5kW rather than 8.5kW...

Is my existing shower fan dangerous??

It's 1.8m fm the floor but right next to the shower. I'm going to replace it with an XPelair DX100 or XX100 which say they're ok in zone 1 (IPX5 rated) and a reasonable price. I can then get a spark to swap it over for an SELV later when I can spare the cash. Thanks gents, much appreciated.

Is my existing shower fan dangerous??

Thanks for your reply but .... According to website extractorfanworld.co.uk/choosing-a-bathroom-fan-58-c.asp It is essential that you install the correct bathroom extractor fan in the correct zone. Bathroom extractor fans come in two voltages; Mains voltage (240v) and SELV or Safety Extra...

Is my existing shower fan dangerous??

Ok, I bought my current property a year ago and have a small wet room that has an axial fan installed within the shower area approx. 1.8m up on the wall. At the weekend I removed the cover to check the model/type etc. and it's a Manrose XF100. This only has an IP44 rating and is 230V. I...

Potterton Prima F40 - Pilot Light

Hi All, Hopefully a quick question that you can assist with ... I've just moved and I believe the Prima F40 has been working fine until a couple of days ago. The other half accidentally switched off the boiler by the Fused Switch and then we had some issues. The boiler would fire up but...

Best option for Gas Hob Ignition Wiring

She who must be obeyed has just changed her mind from Induction to a Gas hob (apparently she's not going to change it back again!!). Think I've got 2 options : 1) Spur to a switched FCU from the cooker control. (What size cable would I need from cooker control to FCU [circuit is 10mm cable...

Why is Skim Coat blistering/bubbling ???

I have today patched up an area of blown plaster and the top coat (multi finish) started to bubble up in a few areas. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? The area is approx 1m square, and repaired as follows:- - Brickwork primed with PVA 1:3 a few days ago. - Last night heating in...
