    Smell from toilet?

Hi, I have recently noticed when letting out the bath water there is a smell of drains appearing, it seems to be around the toilet area and there is a gurgling noise also around the toilet area whilst the bath is draining. Could there be a blockage in my toilet which is only noticed when...

What's a reasonable quote for dpc?

Hi, I have just started decorating the front room of my house, 1920's mid-terrace, and hve found what I believe to be rising damp on the front wall, extends about 1m up the wall either side of the window (window has wood panelling below so there is no evidence of damp below the window)...

RCD half wired and doubled circuits!

I was mistaken when I said I had lead and paper insulated cable. If the service fuse board is lifted off the ground and firmly attached to a joist but still remains under the floor will this be quite safe? I assume it will from the only advice already given being that it should not be on the...

    More than one RCD?

RCD half wired and doubled circuits!

Plugwash, I agree it was dodgy moving the cable, I also think that the original position of it was dodgy, the fact that the mains feed from the street travelled 8 foot up inside a stud wall and was nowhere near the meter!! As for the upstairs being on spurs, this is definately not the case...

    More than one RCD?

Hi, Could someone clear up whether it is beneficial or not to have more than 1 RCD device? I have a 100AMP 100ma RCD fitted between the meter and the CU, I am going to be upgrading the CU for future expansion and am wondering if there is any point in gettinga split load unit with built in...

RCD half wired and doubled circuits!

Mine is also like this, it is also not very flexible for moving, especially when you are having to move it live! my cocern is that the actual fuse housing is now also under the floor.

RCD half wired and doubled circuits!

1, Definately not connected through, only 2 terminals top and bottom, switching it off also does not interrupt the supply. 2, I would still feel better if they were separated. 3, Not sure of the rating but I have a new one waiting to put in which is 9.5kw at 240v, maths say I need to...

RCD half wired and doubled circuits!

Hi, I have a problem with an RCD device in my house, it is an old house but I think it has been re-wired at some point. Firstly, there is a separate RCD device (63a) before the cu but the wires from the meter and the wires to the cu both come from the bottom of the RCD meaning they are...
