you`ve only had 6 years to get the story straight. The ole' memory ain't what it used to be!

Check the gas is turned off!

Above quote was from HSE and was also in the local newspaper. If you infer, low pressure and inside that is up to you. Regards pressure and pipes I think thats academic. Isn't a gas main a pipe? The report in the accident report is quite vague. Only one man was injured, and he was...

Check the gas is turned off!

No insult taken. One should always check references/sources etc. I drove past the pub that afternoon. Long after the bang luckily! http://www.norfolkpubs.co.uk/norfolkc/coltishall/coltilt.htm (their pic's nearly as good as mine!) and...

LCD TV mounted over gas fire

How does size affect this? ChrisJ78 wrote: Surely it's the technology which determines the screen quality, refresh rate etc. Try mentioning Sale Of Goods Act 1979 as amended, where 'Satisfactory quality' now is to include 'durability' para 14 sub para 2B (e) See this link:-...

LCD TV mounted over gas fire

Thanks for replies, has any one out there actually done it? Mounted an LCD Tv on the same wall as a modern style gas fire that is. Preferbly a flueless hole in the wall type gas fire. 'Twas my original question. I know it's been done as I've seen pics in magazines and seen the...

Check the gas is turned off!

Was a lovely old 17c pub. Sparky drilled through a gas pipe and then woke up on the pavement several yards away. Its a block of flats now

Light pendant Live when switched off

 Thanks TicklyT but that looks too much like an LC circuit to me! I hated doing those  I hated skin effect and waveguides too! I don't remember Leakance. (Not measured in Mhos is it?) Sounds like conductance to me. Just checked lightswitch three cables with...

Light pendant Live when switched off

Thanks Bongos, the simplest answers are always the best! So it seems a) 'Capacitive Coupling' is common in domestic electric wiring and b) an earthed centre CPC in T&E will greatly reduce the effect and c) the phenomen is more detectable with a very high impedance meter (DMM). I...

LCD TV mounted over gas fire

I wish to install a hole in the wall gas fire on the outside wall of the living room then mount an LCD TV above it. I e-mailed five gas fire retailers, four of which flatly refused to entertain the idea. The fifth advised against it but would enter into a discusion. I already have gas in...

Light pendant Live when switched off

Thanks to you all for your ideas especially Bernard Green for your capacitance explanation. If I remember rightly (I often don't) for that much of a voltage (228v ac) to be seen across the switch then the wires would surely have to be microns apart for charge to develop at such a low volatge. I...

    Roofer sawed through mains cable

My first rewire! Many years ago shortly after moving in to my first home the roof needed resupporting as per surveyor's report. After a couple of hours of sawing and banging from the loft space the roofers departed having installed a new beam accross the width of the bungalow to take the...

I think there was a few wires in the rose (could be a loop in) I'll have a look this weekend.

Light pendant Live when switched off

Thanks to Bernard Green. I think I understood what you've said... the light switch is capacitive coupling 228v across the input supply Live to the output load Live which should go when the bulb (sorry, filament!) is refitted. Not sure why the filament would cancel the capacitance accross the...

Light pendant Live when switched off

Thanks for your replies but am sorry I didn't make it clear, with the bulb removed there is 239v ac accross the two bayonet spring terminals when switched on and 228v ac when the light is switched off. Only when the CU lighting ring fuse is pulled does it drop to zero.

Light pendant Live when switched off

Whilst replacing a light pendant I noticed it was 228v ac when switched off. Switched on was 239v ac. Light has worked fine for years. Is this a borrowed neutral? It is only fed with one switch 2G which also feeds an outside light. With the CU fuse pulled it drops to zero.
