Join new drainpipe into existing soakway underground pipe

I have a new extension that I would like to join the drainpipe from into an existing underground soakway feed pipe (brown 100mm?). The extension downpipe is approx 60mm square, rather than try and fit a 45 degree join in the underground pipe to accept the new drainpipe, can a 'boss' be used for...

Take lighting circuit feed from PIR outside light?

FWIW, The building notice specific to my council has nothing about part P etc.. fairly straightforward form. Inspector has stated the obvious about electrical work needing to be certificated, all seems to be drifting away from the original question, but anyway no more worries for anyone..

Take lighting circuit feed from PIR outside light?

Thanks, I'll take some advice from an electrician....... p.s I didn't say the whole house was on a SINGLE RDC...

Take lighting circuit feed from PIR outside light?

Ideally I would like to use the feed for the lights in the extension, but also extend the light to be used on the outside of the extension. The whole house is on RCD, and I plan on getting an electrician to check the installation, or even make all the necessary connections. I basically just...

Take lighting circuit feed from PIR outside light?

Hi, Currently building a ground floor extension and am now looking at fitting the electrics. I have an outside PIR light, that is now inside following the extension build. This light is connected to a switch that allows this light to be on all the time, or just PIR mode. The question is...

lead flashing on low pitch roof with interlocking tiles

Dont really follow, just to clarify, the tiles are interlocking, but installed in a half bond fashion (sandtoft 20/20). Sandtoft recommended the secret gutter which is installed. So should I just fit some lead flashing upstand and carry this onto the tiles. This would result in gaps surely at...

lead flashing on low pitch roof with interlocking tiles

Hi, Just finished tiling the extension roof and am now looking at fitting the lead flashing. I've got code 4 lead, 300mm wide and need to fit this along the top abutment to the house, and then side sloping (18 degrees) abutment. From my research, fitting the top abutment looks quite...

Installed velux, optional components required / alternatives

Hi, Just fitted 3 velux P10 GGL windows to my extension and also have the EDW flashing kits to fit. I notice the (useless) instructions show shopping baskets for what looks like insulation and other kits. I plan on just fitting some 20mm celotex around the outside to replace the insulation...

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

so even though the outside wall will support the tray at its 'back', it still needs supporting at its 'front', between the rafters ? and this could just be a batten or similar between the rafters ? all this whilst still trying to maintain a 25mm drape. As the tiles will be resting on the...

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

yes, similar to those. Just one other query, as I have no soffit or fascia board, do the last row of tiles just rest / overhang on the outer wall, using tilt fillet where necessary to maintain the correct tile angle, and presumably to maintain a gap underneath where water etc. can run under...

now what do I do with the underlay support trays I had planned on fitting then under the membrane leading into the gutter, can this still be done, to a fashion......ta

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

yes thats what I thought, but then I would have to cut down all the noggins as they are level with the joists at present ? any what happens with water collecting above the velux opening area, does this just eventually find its way down either side of it?

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

ok, I'm thinking aloud here as I try to resolve this problem. Even though the Tyvek documentation says to make the membrane taught, I could drape this by 20mm between the rafters which would allow water/vapour to run out, negating the need for counterbattens. Although how do I manage this above...

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

just a quick update, I've measured the distance for counterbattens and fitting these would leave me with a 60mm upstand on the lead flashing, 15mm below the min 75mm, maybe I can use 10mm counterbattens instead of 25mm???

Roof ventilation ? vent it or membrane......

ok, although I've posted some of this on another topic, this question better clarifies my query. I have a 18 degree lean to roof on my extension which I am struggling to complete due to the ventilation requirements. The construction at present consists of 7 inch joists from pitching plate...

Monopitch warm roof query, trim back trusses? and fit vents

Hi, I have a lean to roof on an extension I am building. The joists attach to the pitching plate and inside wall plate, but extend over the outside wall at the moment. As I want to finish the outside wall, I presume I cut back the joists to finish on the inside wall, and can then finish...

Fitting velux to monopitch roof, double up on roof trusses?

should also say, roof dimension are 6460mm by 3600mm, so fitting 400 centre trusses means I could easily move then around to suit the velux window requirements.

Fitting velux to monopitch roof, double up on roof trusses?

I'm just about to fit 3 new P10 velux windows to my single story extension and have looked into the fitting procedure. I've read about having to double up on the roof trusses around the velux windows, (either side, and top and bottom?) but as I have 7*2", this does seem a bit of an overkill? Is...
