Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

All stainless. M5 threaded bar in 1m length from ToolStation. I thought I might replace with thicker stainless rod, but it seems robust enough. Now the heights are set I should trim off the excess to neaten it up

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

UPDATE The thing is built and has been working this week in flood control. All perfect. Second relay provides an alarm contact for high-high electrode or for power loss. Alarm in house has battery back. Hard wired to look at both relays. In time I hope to add some monitoring logic to record...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

Is it a 1.5kW pump, usually left for remote starting on just a float switch. The whole purpose of this exercise is to provide easier setting of hi and low levels, and to avoid potential for the float switch to get snagged. I intend this control box to simply power a socket on/off. It should...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. I have now acquired a Crouzet HNM liquid level relay and planning the other parts to wire it up as a panel. I learnt some things about contactors today, I always assumed they were relatively simple things and had never had need to look at...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

Is this a mad idea - I'm sure it's bad practice, but any reason it would not work? If I happened to have a 3-pole contactor available, 2 poles to switch the pump, and the third pole to use as the Aux for the coil voltage? Or on a 2-pole, only switch the pump live and use the second pole for Aux...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

The datasheet I was looking at needs sensitivity set up to correctly detect: 3 ranges, fine tuning. Depending on model also to select between pump up and pump down. Once this is done it should be set, but it comes down to not being there and others fiddling....

    Yep - that's easier. Thanks.

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

Thanks everyone - I'm going to look more at the liquid level relays. I had not come across these before. My first thought is they might be harder to troubleshoot for the inexperienced, and cheaper versions are probably not so robust as cheaper float switches. The thing that attracted me to...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

ANOTHER THOUGHT: Why am I considering using a FCU? This whole assembly could be with a 3-pin plug, straight into the conveniently located ring main socket. It's then just a switched extension lead. Advantage - no need to open up the ring main for adding the spur (I'm happy doing this, but it's...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

Thanks. I'll take a look at the no-float. Only thing I see straight away is a £1 AliExpress module. Concerned on the corrosion of bare metal ends in contact with water for months at a time. . I would prefer to use robust industrial level switches, but they are expensive, and mostly...

Switching sockets by contactor from fused spur

This is a little different - I want to build a small control circuit to turn on flood pumps when a high level float switch is tripped, and leave the pump on until the low level switch is broken. I figure this can be done with a couple of contactors inside an enclosure and feeding a regular...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

I would find a spot to do a couple of test holes in. Do another 10mm and make sure the debris is all out of the hole. Maybe run the bit in and out a few times to make sure it's a 'loose' 10mm. And if you have a 12mm bit then try that as well. You will know from how the screw tightens down if you...

Summerhouse - allowing for future replacement floor sheets?

Question is about how to lay the floor sheets of a timber summerhouse I am starting to design and whether to 'trap' them below the stud walls. One thing I don't like with all the designs I see is that the perimeter stud walls are built on top of the floor sheet. In my mind I prefer the future...

    Adding insulation to dormer bungalow

Have recently moved into a dormer bungalow, and gradually finding a long list of things to do. Somewhere near the top of this list is to add more insulation to the floor of the eaves spaces. I have read most of the posts on here - just want to run my thinking past anyone who knows - and ask for...
