Fitting Electric Fire – Cable Size

OP, just a thought; did you measure the core with green & yellow sleeving?

Fitting Electric Fire – Cable Size

Did you measure the diameter then work out the area or is that just the diameter?

    lighting issue

Quick question...does the fan work at all in the sitting room? My guess would be that it's faulty.

    4 core SWA cable

This. Maybe whoever installed it meant to double up on the cores, giving 5mm², but didn't bother/someone made modifications somewhere along the line. OP, the cable runs directly into the MCB? Where's the neutral? :?

    1500mm strip light blowing tubes

    Spurs off a ring

The way you plan to put it together is fine (as long as the JBs are accessible), but the idea of having 2 immersion heaters on a ring? What's their rating (usually 16a), and what else is on the ring?

How many appliances can I run off a single house socket?

Yorkshire's a funny place, but they still use 230v.

    this can't be safe?

Hull? We've got an Indian takeaway 10 seconds from the front door, about 5 pizza shops within 5 minutes walk, 5 or 6 pubs and a Tesco express. Oh, and it has to be curry on chips. ;)

    Installing a 14.8kw Range Cooker

Thanks for that. I think the OP might have got this sorted by now though, it was nearly three years ago.

    Full rewire costs

Short answer: No. Long answer: Noo. What do you want doing? How many points/room? Standard plastic, or expensive chrome? Any furniture to move about? Do you need a cooker feed? Network? TV points? Downlights? Outside lights? Edit: Beaten to it.

    1998 Xsara - Bearings?

There is no knocking noise over bumps. There is sometimes a squeaking (like the noise a seal makes) under acceleration/deceleration. The knocking is only noticeable on hard cornering (roundabouts, and inparticular one corner which is almost like a tight left U-bend), as far as I can tell the...

Thanks. How much do you reckon that'll set me back?

    1998 Xsara - Bearings?

My 1998 1.6 Xsara sometimes makes a 'clunk-clunk-clunk' noise when cornering, sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side. When I bought the car in February, the garage's mechanic said it was "definitely not mechanical" and that I had nothing to worry about. I gave a lad from work a lift...

    Old GEC Main cut out

Ahem, please stop knocking my drawing. That work of art took minutes to complete. The fourth set being missed out for ease. BAS could see how it worked, I would have thought you, could imagine tails to the CU from the LHS of the isolator? To save any confusion, I've added them for you...

    Old GEC Main cut out

Can I have a go? Of course the material joining the lever & the two forks is non-conductive.  Fused neutral of course.

    Camping at Aldi

40 quid?! It's basically an extension lead! You'd be better off making up your own extension lead with an inline RCD. 'Camping' is broadly used nowadays; is this for a tent or a caravan?

    Just wondering about Main Supply.....

Wants sorting ASAP in my opinion. The DNO (CE) aren't liable to provide and earth; but if one is supplied it is up to them to maintain it. When the cutout is changed it will be the engineer's decision whether or not he converts it to TNS/TNCS. A cup of tea and biscuits might help. ;)...
