Deck lighting cable gnawed by rodents

We had some deck lights installed in the summer and I've just noticed tonight that the last 3 lights in the run are off. I've found the wire leading from the last working light has been gnawed through. What's the best way to protect the wiring from rodents once repaired? Flexible conduit or...

    5-way inspection chamber

We have a 5-way inspection chamber where only 1 of the side inlets is used to carry the waste from the soil pipe from our en-suite. Over time, waste splashes into the unused inlets of the chamber and just remains there until I periodically open it up and wash it away with the hosepipe. Is...

    Replacing Shower Pump

Assuming no pipework alteration is needed, how much should I be paying to replace with a like-for-like new pump?

    Replacing Shower Pump

I did consider it but thought I'd best leave it to a professional. I was worried about the priming part as wasn't sure how to do that exactly.

    Replacing Shower Pump

How much should I expect to pay (labour only) to replace a failing Stuart Turner Monsoon Standard 2.0 bar Twin shower pump with a new one?

    Pump on the way out?

We have a Stuart Turner Monsoon 2.0 bar Twin pump fitted at home which operates on all of our hot water taps and shower. It was in the house when we moved in back in 2007 so it's at least 12 years old now. It's recently started coming on as normal when a hot tap/shower is switched on but then...

    Crosswater Kai Digital Shower Problem

I was wondering if someone had an opinion on an issue which has suddenly started with a digital shower (low-pressure dual outlet) that’s been in use for approx. 6 months. The shower has started failing to flow properly when switched on and we have to turn it up to full to eventually get the...

    Boiler flow temperature

BG took it away with them. I didn't think to ask how it looked. I'm going to experiment with different boiler outputs just to see how it affects things. The boiler is 10 years old next year. I may just replace it. I have a love hate relationship with it. My children say I know the boiler...

    Boiler flow temperature

BG changed the pump on Monday to a Grundfos Alpha 2 15/60 with Auto Adapt but they said that there does seem to be a lot of crud in the system as the magna clean was pretty dirty again within the few hours they were here after cleaning it on their arrival. They've suggested a powerflush next...

    Thanks! I'll let you know!

    Boiler flow temperature

I've looked and it's set to position 3. Is it possible that the pump just isn't big enough? We've built an extension on the house so now have 4 more radiators than we did a year ago. There are a total of 14 radiators and the length of pipe run in the house (large 4 bed detached) is now a lot...

    Boiler flow temperature

Not particularly. The house doesn't generally lose a lot of heat. I did try experimenting with increasing the boiler output to 24kw and then 30kw but it became excessively noisy and seemed to me as if it was overrated on those settings from its behaviour. Thanks for your comments.

    Boiler flow temperature

There was hardly any air in the system when it was bled and all of the rads appear to warm up equally. They just don't get as hot as I think they should get despite the boiler being set to 75. The boiler just seems content to flow at 55 after hours of operation. It does occasionally fire up...

    Boiler flow temperature

I asked our installer (BG) at the same time I posted here as I've always had great help on here over the years and wanted a second opinion. The BG engineer has recommended I bleed each rad to ensure that there's no air in the system following the drain down and refill. I'll see if that helps.

    Boiler flow temperature

We have a Glowworm 38hxi downrated to 21kw as we have radiators + dhw totalling about that. We have the flow temperature of the boiler set to 75. We had a new radiator installed the other day so the system was drained down for that (I increased rating to 21kw from 19kw due to the new rad being...

    Shower Waste

You were absolutely spot on! Investigations this morning have confirmed that there is no connection between new foul drain and existing! Job getting done on Thursday but tomorrow they're emptying the new drain. Nice!!! Hugh Jathanks to you!

    Shower Waste

I could do that. Not sure what my experiment would be though! Ha-ha! Nearest manhole is close.

    Shower Waste

Thanks. I didn't think it would resolve it as it's air that's coming back up through the shower waste trap like you've said. I'll investigate the drain itself as suggested.

    Shower Waste

Someone did look at this some weeks ago as it does look from the ground like there is very little fall on the waste pipe. They said there was a slight fall. Would this fall being very slight possibly be causing it on its own? Should I get it changed to be greater? Thanks!

    Shower Waste

We've had a new extension built for a new bedroom with en suite. The fast flow shower waste in the new en suite shows some strange behaviour. Firstly, when you flush the loo the chrome shower waste rocks up and down. Secondly, sometimes the shower water flows out of the shower tray fine and...
