    Insulating summerhouse/log cabin

Yeah, you're bang on, those are the braces I'm referring to. I did a bit more reading and the expansion/contraction is caused by moisture in the timber. If there's little moisture then I should be alright. I gave the timbers 5 coats of preserve and 5 coats of water resistant paint so I should...

    Insulating summerhouse/log cabin

I've put up a 4x3 summerhouse/log cabin last month and I'm now looking to get the inside insulated. I was planning on building stud walls with 50mm celotex covered with sheet timber. My concern is that if I attached the stud wall to the cabin walls it won't allow for any movement. I have the...

    Shed on concrete base

I'd always go with bearers. Just something to take it off the concrete to let the air circulate.

    Sub base pushing up water

I have dug my sub base out for a summer house (4m X 3m). The soil is clay. It's not been raining for a few day here however the soil is leaching out water and pushing it to the surface. I keep scooping it off but woke again this morning to more. Can I clear it and get my type 1 down or do I...

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

Decided against slabs now. Going with breeze blocks instead to lift it off the ground a good bit. Will put some decking boards around the bottom as a skirt. Still putting 2 ton type 1 down then the breeze blocks concreted on top. Also going to run a drain from the bottom left corner (deepest...

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

Unfortunately I was travelling for a few days so had to take a break from digging....came back to this after 2 days of rain. I'm concerned that anything I lay will get waterlogged......the deepest part is about 10cm

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

Tell you what though, no wonder all those YouTube videos have timelapse when they're digging the base out, this thing is taking forever.....and the amount of soil is unbelievable. I took a rotavator to it to make it easier but the old back isn't up to it anymore!!

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

Thanks. Do I need to do anything to the soil beforehand as it's so soft... compact it a little? Cheers

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

Cheers. I'm assuming geotextile and not one of those crappy weed membranes? Would it be woven or non woven? Do you also think I'm okay to compact the type 1 with the water on the top of the soil or should I wait until it disappears? I have a feeling it'll be splashing all over the place

Laying slab base on really muddy, clay soil

This is what I was planning, would appreciate your thoughts please... I'm putting up a summer house soon and wanted to put in on a slab base. The summerhouse is 4m x 3m, the base will be sized accordingly. I was planning on digging down 130mm, laying 70mm of type 1, then putting the 32mm...

Done everything - can't find problem

Thought I'd give an update in case anyone else has the same problems...... there was air in the system, probably coming in from the manual bleed valve in the airing cupboard so he fitted an automatic air vent.... however the rads were still overheating as was the water so he's changed the PCB...

Done everything - can't find problem

Ha ha, it's still too early in the morning for me......I have this at 1 already ( there are 1 -6 available). ... so am I looking at changing the thermostat stat then, the engineer I had in didn't seem to think this was the issue but to be fair, all he did was turn the speed of the pump up...

Done everything - can't find problem

Just been woke up with the banging again, hot water and heating were both on ......the 2 rads in the living room are cold, went to bleed them but they have water in them, the feed pipe into the tank in the cupboard next to the pump is hot, don't know if this is anything to do with overheating...

Done everything - can't find problem

I know the advice is good Gav, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing cos I need to take all the foam padding off the pipes to check it.........I've checked the pipes in the cupboard and all are good

Done everything - can't find problem

I'll check the feed pipe tomorrow, but when I refilled the system a few weeks ago there were no issues, surely the issue with the feed pipe would have shown up them and ended up with the system not refilling
