    Wallpapering MDF cabinet with door

Thanks a lot for your advice I really appreciate it. I have seen a few projects like this where they have papered onto things without an overlap - do you think this is doomed to fail and start peeling later on?

    Wallpapering MDF cabinet with door

Hello, I built an MDF cabinet in the bathroom to hide the boiler and I now want to wallpaper it. This is the first thing I've ever papered so a bit anxious! I've read up as much as possible and I'll seal the MDF with some watered down PVA followed by a layer of paste first. The thing I'm...

Lolz! I'm afraid I've not seen that film so the references are lost on me! :)

Stair joist loose bricks and odours

Hello, We have a problem with odours (cannabis!) coming from next door. We live in a very old terraced cottage and I read that the joists penetrate through the walls. Sure enough I checked the cupboard under the stairs and found a few loose bricks where the joist has presumably been...

    MDF in the bathroom

Hello, I've built a MDF box to house a boiler and cistern in the bathroom. I'm going to wallpaper it and put some skirting board around the bottom. Do I need to treat it in any way to prevent moisture problems? I was thinking maybe paint the parts which touch the floor with PVA? Thanks in advance

    Mitre box

Haha! I thought it was that simple! I think I read somewhere that the tenon saw/chop saw (whatever the type with the rigid bit at the top) cuts with less wobble and hence a cleaner edge, but the slit in the mitre box is doing that for you anyway right? Cheers!

    Mitre box

Hello, I just bought this mitre box & tenon saw from Screwfix: They are same brand (Forge Steel) - but the saw doesn't reach the bottom of box and is way too short to move back & forth! I'm looking to take one or the other back, probably the box, but I can't see depth measurement on...

    Tap diameters & water pressure

Thanks a lot for all the info + tips everyone, this forum is amazing. I'll keep my eye out for a low bar tap and see if there's anything I can do to improve the pipework. Interestingly adding the supplied aerator helps a lot by making the most of the water so washing hands is good, but...

    Bending push-fit pipes

Yeah and most of the push fit elbows are dead ugly, like something off the back of a washing machine ...

    Bending push-fit pipes

Thanks Joe, that pdf has loads of useful info. I'm a bit confused now though, the Speedfit website lists a range of spring benders at the usual 15mm & 22mm sizes, but are these specially reduced to fit the push-fit pipe internal radius? Sorry guess I should be asking the manufacturer that. I...

    Bending push-fit pipes

I wanted to bend some push fit plastic 15mm & 22mm pipes instead of use a load of elbows, is there a good way to do this or is it even possible? I tried with bending springs but the inner radius seems to be smaller with plastic and they won't fit inside... Does a bend improve the flow rate...

    Tap diameters & water pressure

Thanks Chris, Good news to hear that the size of the tap tail/connector doesn't affect things that much, that means I can call off the search for a bigger diameter one. Will try to work out the bar rating & flow rate and compare with tap specs. Plus I'll stop calling the basin a sink! :-)

    Tap diameters & water pressure

Hello, I bought a bathroom sink and tap from IKEA as part of a DIY refurb. The new tap is a monoblock with 12mm x 15mm connectors and it replaced a pair standard 15mm ones. As it's an old house with a gravity fed system the water pressure is not amazing but hot water from this new tap is...

Water mains stopcock under kitchen sink dripping

Haha thanks a lot, I thought it would be that simple - tightened it up now and see how it goes. Anything AFTER the mains stopcock I'm ok with, but on it or before it is scary...
