Hello,

I just bought this mitre box & tenon saw from Screwfix:

They are same brand (Forge Steel) - but the saw doesn't reach the bottom of box and is way too short to move back & forth!

I'm looking to take one or the other back, probably the box, but I can't see depth measurement on saws or boxes online, only width & length.

Can anyone recommend a decent saw & box combo for a DIY'er?

Thanks!

Haha! I thought it was that simple!

I think I read somewhere that the tenon saw/chop saw (whatever the type with the rigid bit at the top) cuts with less wobble and hence a cleaner edge, but the slit in the mitre box is doing that for you anyway right?

Cheers!

Tenon saws come in various lengths , you bought a short one, they have fine teeth for cutting tenon joints, hence the name.

Done a bit of diy over the years and gone through a number of mitre boxes of different kinds, in the end I got sick of the poor finish (probably my fault) and bits breaking off them. Since I wanted a better quality finish and I knew I'd get more use out of it over the years I bought a cheap electric sliding compound mitre saw for about 70quid (mcallister I think) from b&q and haven't regretted it. I think you can get even cheaper if you aren't bothered about it sliding etc.
