Kitchen units - turning into open cupboards - best way to fill / cover holes?

Just wanted to show how this little project is shaping up. Using @foxhole 's suggestion of 3mm PVC panels has turned out brilliantly. Before: After: Looking forward to getting the backs sorted, and then I can mark this little project complete. Many thanks as always for the advice and...

Kitchen units - turning into open cupboards - best way to fill / cover holes?

Thanks to @foxhole for the suggestion, and to @freddiemercurystwin for linking me to some 3mm PVC sheets. Measured up, and they arrived today and (even covered in blue wrap) look great. Instant cover up of all the holes (backs tbd). What adhesive would you recommend for sticking PVC board to a...

I can find "PVC foam board" online. Is that the material you're suggesting @foxhole?

Kitchen units - turning into open cupboards - best way to fill / cover holes?

Hello. I've removed an old integrated oven from an IKEA kitchen, and want to turn the space it occupied into an open front storage for cook books and the likes. However, the sides are littered with screw-holes. What's my best bet for getting rid of these? Should I just get some conti...

Cleaning up an old coal bucket

Hello. I've got an old coal bucket which for a bit of a project I'd like to clean up and repair a bit to use it for firewood storage. I've no idea what sort of metal it's made out of (it's 40+ years old though), nor do I know anything about cleaning metal. How should I go about cleaning...

    Hooks on top of fence

Yes. I'm using turnbuckles. They need to hook onto the hook.

    Hooks on top of fence

Hello. I need to attach some hooks to the top of the fence to hold some wire under tension. Screwing them into the top isn't enough; the boards are thin and easily just split when the wire is under tension. Anyone know of something that can be screwed into the side for better fixture, and then...

Batten fencing / screening - nail gun or screw?

Hello, I need to create a batten fence / screen. Posts are 100mm x 100mm and the battens are 25mm thick. Would you recommend for fixing? Would you go nail gun or screws?

Fence posts - what width would you use for this sort of project?

Hello, I'm going to be building practically this in the corner of my garden: What size (width) posts would you suggest for a project like this? Would 4 x 4inch be overkill? Cheers

Damp patch in porch - What's the best exterior sealant to use for door frame to brick work?

Morning, Woke up after a night of heavy rain to find a damp patch in the corner of the porch. Had a look outside and there's an obvious gap between the brickwork and the door frame which I assume is responsible (or at least, not helping). What would be the right product to use to seal this up...

Pallet wood - what stains & products would you use?

Hey folks, I'm building a pallet wood feature wall. I'm sanding all the planks down, so they're a clean light colour atm: I'd like the final colour to be a touch darker, more like this: Any recommendations of products & colours to try? Cheers!

Central heating & hot water - how should we plan to upgrade

Is it viable to run a heat pump through radiators? I've always been under the impression that's where the problems of people feeling like they're not doing anything begin.

Central heating & hot water - how should we plan to upgrade

Hello, Not really a DIY question at this stage, but definitely after some advice and thoughts. Our house central heating is run by an old (talking 90s) oil boiler and our hot water by immersion. Everything in the house when it comes to the central heating and hot water setup is bad and...

Heavy scaffold shelf - what fixings would you recommend

Hey folks. I'm going to put up a scaffold shelf in the kitchen. At 160cm length it's feeling a bit weighty, and I also want to add a bar / hooks underneath to hang pans (so even more weight). Pretty much like this: I got this heavy-duty bracket set off Amazon. The brackets feel great...

Want to install new fence - do I need planning permission?

Yeah, I'm going to carry on. I'm glad I learned how and who to contact, though. I hear some people who just say they're not going to bother and just do stuff. Personally, I'd rather engage with a department, check things are going to be OK, and minimize any unwanted surprises or hassle in the...

Want to install new fence - do I need planning permission?

I did contact them and was told... "We can only offer informal advice as part of the duty officer service but my advice would be that a fence that is 7.8 metres back from the road would not be considered adjacent to the highway" I'm confused how the planning department can only offer informal...

Want to install new fence - do I need planning permission?

Neighbours are fine with it. I'm not aware of any restrictions but I've gone ahead and sent an enquiry to the council / LPA anyway. No idea when I'll get a response though. Their webpage seems to mostly be about explaining how everything is delayed forever.
