Bosch washer dryer WVT1260GB/01 condenser fan replacement

Hello. My washer dryer generally works fine, but wasn't drying quite as well as usual. As I now have two cats, and their hair gets everywhere, I thought I ought to check the fan for lint. It wasn't too bad, and I bought a new seal, but it's proving really difficult to get the fan back on to...

    Ancient towel rail not heating

There is now a conclusion to this matter. The plumber had turned the rail valve a little bit, but he thought not enough to turn it off.

    Ancient towel rail not heating

I tried the hot water only aspect and it didn't heat up, although I might not have waited long enough. The plumber said he didn't want to touch the right hand valve in case he broke it so I'm assuming it is still open.

    Ancient towel rail not heating

Hi Terry. I tried that and it didn't heat up. Also the bit of warmth it had before wasn't there any more. I've now tried turning the radiators on high the same floor and those above and the heat at the bottom came back a bit. I'm still trying bleeding it, bubbly water at first then shutting...

    Ancient towel rail not heating

Hi terryplumb, thanks for replying. I've tried bleeding it again but only get a few spitty bubbles out before the water runs cleanly. The black knob is wound out as far as it will go. When I got back from work the lower part on the black knob side was slightly warm. I ran a bath and it all went...

    Ancient towel rail not heating

I've just had the plumber round to fit a new pump. The port valve was also changed. Now the ancient towel rail is cold, having been reliably hot before. I can feel the pipes are hot near the floor. I have unscrewed the chrome covers at the top and tried bleeding it. I'm getting some...

Ideal e type boiler thermostat fitting

Hi, I have an ancient Ideal e type boiler which works well, except the thermostat is considered to be a bit "iffy" as it does work but not with reference to the numbers on the dial. I managed to get a replacement genuine thermostat and am awaiting someone to come and fit it. He is a young man...

Cyclists should be banned off certain roads

You ARE out of touch. I'm not well off. I've just bought a 12 yr old Skoda for £1700. The tax is less than that of the previous VW Polo, Of COURSE the amount of tax is a deciding factor when every penny counts.

Cyclists should be banned off certain roads

The varying rates of vehicle excise duty can be used to encourage people to use cars that are cleaner though. That's been a real boon to me and to my two sons.

Cyclists should be banned off certain roads

Yeah, I know it's not "road tax", it's "vehicle excise duty" and I know it doesn't pay for roads either. I was just trying to make a point to the anti cyclists on their terms!

Cyclists should be banned off certain roads

Forgive me if this point has already been mentioned. All the cyclists I know, and I know quite a few are car drivers as well. So not only do they all have the experience of bring on both sides of the argument, they also all pay what you anti cyclists prefer to call "road tax", in some cases...

    Torbeck Valve water hammer

Update. Feel a bit stupid now! Took the valve to bits to look at the diaphragm and the needle thing, then put it back together quite loosely and turned on the water to check the ballcock was working freely and there was almighty crashing and banging as the valve shut off. So - I tightened it...

    Torbeck Valve water hammer

Thanks again. I'll try the part from Torbeck first, then if no joy, the Fluidmaster it is.

    Torbeck Valve water hammer

Thanks for all the input. When I fitted the new diaphragm, I just used the isolator valve below the cistern to turn off the water. I still had to fit the diaphragm over the metal needle. Does Fluidmaster make a valve to the same dimensions the space is limited inside the cistern?

    Torbeck Valve water hammer

I've recently fitted a new diaphragm to the Torbeck valve in my toilet cistern. It fills quietly, but a few moments after shutting off peace is shattered by a few moments of water hammer. It's only the diaphragm that has changed. There's been a Torbeck in this cistern for 25 years and I've...

    Bosch or Zanussi

Hi, I'm pretty skint and need to get a washer dryer in a hurry. I have the choice of two at the same price. Zanussi ZWD1272W or BOSCH WHT1260GB. The Bosch dimensions are better for me, but I'm concerned about whether the tub can be accessed for coins etc, reliability and mendability. Any...

hotpoint wd61 not heating water properly

OK. There has turned out to be a positive outcome to this problem, which may help anyone who still has this old model. Firstly, I changed the element, which turned out to be all right, but the thermistor had an open circuit. Changing the element was a bit tricky as it would not come out...

hotpoint wd61 not heating water properly

Hello again. I've had time to look a bit closer at this problem. The water was not hissing when I opened the drawer. I've realised that the heat I felt in the water was just from the hot water from the tap. I tried turning off my hot water and the machine wasn't heating at all. If this is...
