Removing a radiator - how to cap kuterlex 10mm

Thanks WedgeAntillesRed2 Would it help if I also just empty out the expansion tank, so that if I don't get a tight seal at the cold feed connector, then it's not so much of a problem? Isolation valves ound like a good idea, so I don't need to go through this again! Thanks Brian

Removing a radiator - how to cap kuterlex 10mm

Thanks 45yearsagasman I found the 10mm compression caps just after I posted, so will get one of those. Re the expansion tank, if I follow your instructions then I will: 1. turn off the cold feed to the tank, 2. put a bung in the tank at the exit pipe to stop any feed from the tank to...

Removing a radiator - how to cap kuterlex 10mm

Hello all Last night, I removed a radiator from my kitchen, since it is going to make room for some kitchen units. I intend to put in an under cabinet central heating kickboard radiator at some point, so wanted to keep the feed and return pipes and the valves as they were. So, I used a...

    Water pressure problem

Hi all - I hope that I can get some help with a water pressure problem I have. Background is that I bought a 1907 farmhouse last year and, during the winter had frozen supply pipes into the house. The mains supply is cast iron until it hits our boundary, then turns to 32mm MDPE as it runs...

    Repair or replace lead flashing

Hi all Thanks for the replies and thoughts. I hadn't thought about putting another flashing over the existing one. I'm not sure how that would be secured above the slates. The prevailing wind would be driving into the leading edge above the slates, so the risk would be that water could get...

    Paint powder on new plaster

Thanks for the replies. Plasterer said to give it a week before painting. After a week, I thought that there was still some more drying to do, since I hadn't got a unifrm colour. So I gave it another week before painting. I thought that would be ok, since I'd given it twice his...

    Paint powder on new plaster

Hi all I recently had a local plasterer do some repairs to a wall in my utility room. The upper part of the wall was fine and didn't need any work - but the lower part needs to have some rough areas and channels repaired. I asked the plasterer whether I needed to mist coat the new plaster...

    Grundfos Homepump

Hi all Looking to se if anyone has any experience of using a Grundfos Homepump, like the one in the link: http://www.bhl.co.uk/product/GRUNDFOS_HOME_BOOSTER_SET_COLD_WATER_37_BAR_PUMP My water pressure and flow rates aren't good enough for an unvented cylinder, since the private pipe...

Cold upstairs radiators needing constant bleeding

Thanks - shall get pump and actuator details and post tomorrow. Re the white pipe to the radiators - very confused - I thought that since there's 2 pipes to each radiator, there'd be 2 pipes to the main 22mm pipes - is there another one that I'm missing? :? Shall hunt for the drain...

Cold upstairs radiators needing constant bleeding

Thanks again for your help. The feed and vent joins to the main system are really testing me. What I think I have is: 1. On the ground floor, 2 22mm pipes (the ch set) from the boiler into an airing cupboard. There's a pump and another unit (an actuator, think) on the pipes and they run...

Cold upstairs radiators needing constant bleeding

Thanks for all assistance yesterday. Bled radiators again last night - with system off and cool. And rads bled quickly, so looks like my initial problem of not getting them to bleed was because I had the system running. Looked for where cold feed from f&e tank joins the system...

Cold upstairs radiators needing constant bleeding

Thanks 45yearsagasman May be a dumb question - but how do I check for blockages where the cold feed joins the system. Do I have to open the pipes up? I think all the connections are rigid and fixed - so I'll need a plumber for that?

Cold upstairs radiators needing constant bleeding

I was thinking of replacing the HW tank, since it's only 140 litres and is poistioned a bit inconveniently. Would I be able to change to a fully pumped system with my existing boiler? I think that it's decent quality and only a couple of years old - so I'm not keen to replace just yet. But...
