    Petrol Lawn Mower

On only it's 2nd day of use I have managed to break the starter cord on my brand new Champion petrol mower! I had some issues getting it started on the first day of use, so the stater cord saw a lot of use. I still did not expect it to shred and then snap so soon, you would think it would be...

    Fitting a door hinge ....

It is a old stripped pine door - I tried to use a metal brachet as a spacer but it did not help. I will have a go with some filler & some longer screws. Thanks

    Fitting a door hinge ....

Fitting a door hinge .... with my 'let’s crack on beginners basics' I have been over zealous with my chisel and chopped out too deep a hole to sit the hinge in. As I have already planed the door to the right size, what can I do to fill out the hole & position the hinge correctly...

    Asbestos roof on lean to?

My girlfriend's new house has an asbestos roof on the lean to which is leaking badly. She needs make this room water-tight before the real bad weather sets in - has anyone got any short-term tips to last through the winter until she can afford to have it removed & replaced? It seems to be...

    Lining Paper?

Looking to wall-paper my bedroom this Bank Holiday weekend - have already stripped all the old paper off (bye bye purple walls & silver swirls!) - the walls are not too bad but have been told by a mate that if I want a good finish I should cover the walls in lining paper before wall papering...

    rusting radiator

I picked up some radiator enamel paint at the weekend to tackle the same problem in my bathroom. Also got a few scratched rads arpind the house that could do with touching up. I will post again after I have done the job.

    Friends still around upstairs!

Yeah both mice and rats go mad for chocolate - I had lots of success with plain cooking chocolate back in my student days when living in a, shall I say less than desirable abode.

    bare patches on lawn

Anyone got more info on this? I have a large ball patch on my lawn - at first it was just moss that took over from the grass, the moss was then picked away by a very industrious blackbird and I have now been left with a bald /patchy area of about 2 by 3 feet.

Tank stands in loft-space? (Now with pics)

The upright supports are secured to the joists that sit directly above the bearing walls below. I was pleased with this as I felt that no weight would be on joists that run over bedroom ceilings - also it seems to me that the weight is shared between the cross beams and the joists below.

    Super glue on paintwork!

Cheers for the tip - I will give it a go. I have some tar marks on my other car anyway so it would be worth getting!

Tank stands in loft-space? (Now with pics)

As promised pics of the tank stand I have made in my loft - sorry about the size! I fixed 5 timbers across the cross beams (collar beams) & then boarded over them - see pics 1 & 2. The brickwork in the middle is a central chimney stack which I built the stand around. I then added 4 timber...

    Super glue on paintwork!

Looks like I won't have to wait too long with all this predicted snow on its way! I had a go at removing the glue first with soapy warm water & then with nail varnish remover but with no success so far.

Tank stands in loft-space? (Now with pics)

masona - the Water Cylinder is in a cupboard in the spare room below. I do not have a lot of space to play with in my loft so any stand structure would have to include the collar beams anyway. Also I was told by the Central Heating Engineer who is carrying out the work that the higher the water...

    Super glue on paintwork!

big-all - cheers for the advice. I did a bit of searching on the internet and found the following on Locktites website's Q&A section - Super Glue can be removed from a surface with acetone (nail polish remover), hot water, or Super Glue Remover

    Super glue on paintwork!

I have managed to get superglue on the paintwork of my Golf - I was using to stick back on a fairing strip. Anyone got any ideas on how I will be able to remove it? It covers a couple of inches in diameter and because the car is black the white glue really shows up. Thanks

Tank stands in loft-space? (Now with pics)

Cost. I have decided to go ahead with adding some extra upright props to add more strength - better safe than sorry!

Tank stands in loft-space? (Now with pics)

I am putting two water tanks (additional to my water cylinder) in my loft space to run a new power shower. I knocked up a tank stand directly on to the cross beams (Collar beams see pic) that run across my loft at waist height. Is it worth me adding some additional props to add strength to...

    Loft Ladders?

I went for a Wooden Loft Ladder & Hatch Kit from B&Q in the end. Pleased with it so far - it was fairly easy to fit along with the help of a mate. The hatch surround boxing is made of a decent quality and the actual ladder has decent sized rungs, much wider than any I have seen on aluminium...

    Loft Ladders?

Down I would think. I am considering getting a loft hatch /ladder combination - you just open the hatch using a rod & the ladder folds down. The ones I have seen fold away nicely when not in use & do not require must space in the loft.

    Loft Ladders?

Planning on getting my loft hatch widened and putting in some retractable loft ladders in the next few weeks. I have had a look around at the different types of ladders available. Is it better to go for wooden or aluminium ladders? Aluminium seems to be cheaper - also wouldn't they be...
