Unexpected shock - was it a capacitance issue

Thanks guys, the gun seemed to have held the charge after switching off the unit and unplugging it at some later time. Was confused as to how I could get a belt off something that was disconnected but also worried from a safety point of view. regards Andrew

Unexpected shock - was it a capacitance issue

Hello John, In the first case, the gun had been switched off for around 10 mins before I unplugged I tang got a belt. In the second case, the gun had been switcher off for around 20seconds before I measured what was on the pins. As you say, it's very odd/not safe...

Unexpected shock - was it a capacitance issue

Any thoughts as to why I got a belt of my heat gun? I unplugged the gun and was winding up the flex when my hand touched the plug pins. Got a hell of a whack! Plugged it back in again and then unplugged and put a meter across the neutral and live pins - registered 130v and decayed quickly. Is...

    Noisy Manrose inline extractor fan

I installed a Manrose extractor fan in my bathroom around 6 months ago. The back draft flaps inside the fan are driving us batty at night. Can they be removed, or is there a simple solution? Thanks

    kitchen downlighter

Having replaced the bulb in one of my downlighters, the fitting no longer sits snugly to the ceiling. I want to remove it to check what the problem is. Is there a knack to releasing the spring-loaded wings without damaging the plasterboard? Thanks

V Noisy Baxi Solo 24HE Bolier

Thanks again Baxmax. The noise starts as soon as the burners fire up. Again, I'm not look to practice any DIY, just want some thoughts as to what the problem might be and, now, what I might expect to get it fixed. Would a new boiler be the best approach if the problem could be one of many...

V Noisy Baxi Solo 24HE Bolier

Thanks Baxmax. I'm not into taking risks and have no problem getting an Engineer involved if you advise that the solution requires it. Is it your thought that my boiler needs some major works. I'm just looking for help/advice. ta

V Noisy Baxi Solo 24HE Bolier

No Lightning, I'm not Gas Safe - won't be entering fire box. Just wanted to know if it was a simple job of replacing gasket or O-ring on condensate venturi system. Is it a common problem with a simple fix? Thanks

V Noisy Baxi Solo 24HE Bolier

I have a 2yr old Baxi 24HE boiler that started making a horrible growling noise around 2 wks ago. It still works fine but the noise can be heard from the bottom of the drive and drives the neighbour's cats mad! The noise appeared to be coming from under the fire box so I bought a new fan and...

    Programmer wiring.

Yes Matt, I have 5 cables running into a junction box next to the valve. These are for the tank stat, valve, pump and 2 flat grey cables which disappear into the wall in the general direction of the boiler/programmer/room stat. The 2 flat cables are both 3 core, one of which has a fitted sheath...

    Programmer wiring.

Thanks guys. It appears that I will have to live with HW and CH on at the same time. The missing cable can't be retro fitted due to the cables running along solid walls that were long since tiled over! Cheers for all your help.

    Programmer wiring.

Thanks Whitespirit66, the grey wire from the motorised valve links to the "earth" wire to the tank stat. There is no other wire taken from that connection. Am I doomed?

    Programmer wiring.

Thanks Simon, I only have L,N & pins 3&4 wired up. There is no spare cables except for a yellow from a 4 core which is joined to the live feed for the boiler in the box behind the programmer.

Thanks for your thoughts and questions. The link on the back was already set to P. I would like to set my timer to get HW just first thing in the morning. However need CH on all day for disabled wife. I have a gravity fed pumped CH system. I don't understand your questions about the...

    Programmer wiring.

Just bought a new digital programmer to replace old mechanical one. New one (Drayton LP241) fitted onto old back (Landis & Gyr). All works fine, but the instructions state that I should be able to get the CH to operate independently from the HW. I can only get the CH to work when the HW is...

    Another shower electrics post!

Thanks Holmslaw. My DHW is via gas boiler (not combi) and seems a waste to leave for work every morning with a tank full of hot water. Also, you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned poor flow - the mixer unit was very poor because I had only 2ft of head between shower outlet and the...
