    Deep Tiled Bath

Hi, We are about to refurbish our bathroom into a new room. It used to be a box bedroom and is fairly narrow. We would like to have a shower for use 90% of the time, however it would be great to have an occasional bath too. So we do not want a narrow bath that you can shower in. I would...

    Insulating Timber Floor from Cellar

Hi, That is exactly what these membranes do and have done for years. You can get one for almost every situation i.e. airtight breather (meaning keeps the air still but allows vapour transmission) or airtight vapour control (which allows no vapour through (which you might use on basement...

    Insulating Timber Floor from Cellar

HI, Airtight breather membranes are extremely common in modern building design. The membrane acts to keep the house airtight from within, to prevent draughts but allows water to escape. I have found some good help here:- http://www.lowenergyhouse.com/timber-floor-insulation.html...

    Insulating Timber Floor from Cellar

Hi, Has anyone any ideas where to stop the insulation? Do I tape it up to the floor, or across and against the brickwork? Thanks, Alex

    Insulating Timber Floor from Cellar

Hi Yes, the rigid board would be quicker and easier to fit, I am just using rockwool because there are so many pipes, and other bits and bobs to get around. Hardly any of the rafters are regular. Alex

    Insulating Timber Floor from Cellar

Hi, I have decided to insulate the underside of our floor within our ground floor flat. It's COLD! Luckily there is a cellar beneath so I can get access to the whole area. It is a Victorian house. I have decided to start by stapling a layer of silver foil (bubble wrap) as a (cheap version)...

Build my own tiled bathtub, waterproofing tricky?

Hi, I would like to design and build my own bathtub to fit a specific space in our bathroom. It will be slightly larger than a conventional bathtub and I need to find a economical/safe way of doing this, so that I don’t end up flooding the house! Could I construct a base form from marine...

    Appalling Water in New Flat

Hi, I wonder if a combi might improve the situation given the mains seems ok. I have bought a new flush mechanism, good for low pressure, so will fit that soon. T23

    Appalling Water in New Flat

Hi, Thanks Sooey, what are the right sort of taps for low pressure systems? This sounds like an option. I will check the hose and shower head. It is not a mains fed shower, there is no electric shower box, it is just fed by the hot water supplied by the boiler. Do you ever have to bleed a...

    Appalling Water in New Flat

Thanks. Presumably there must have been a better flow at some point with the existing set-up. Is there anything I can do to return it to this state? Could it be air blockage or something that needs doing to the boiler? Are there any simple fixes to the shower fittings themselves? Cheers Alex

    Appalling Water in New Flat

Hi, I am just about to move in to a 1 bedroom flat which is my first home. I have been sanding the floors there, and whilst there have noticed that the water pressure is shockingly bad. I don’t know how the people there before could have washed! It is strange as the place is in generally good...
