Hi, thanks very much for the reply noseall. They are plain clay 'rosemary' tiles which I will supply and I will also supply the battens. All I need doing is the battens and tiles laying, I will do the fascia, flashing etc. ps Just had another 'bash' at it over the last hour and got...

    Canopy roof

Hi, I have built a canopy roof across the width of our house and have felted it. I am coming a bit stuck where the tiling is concerned as I have never done any roofing before. As I have far too much other stuff to be getting on with, I wondered if any roofers out there would give me a very...

    Dismantling a prefab concrete garage

Just advertise it on fleabay, buyer to collect and dismantle. I sold one similar last year for £100 with no roof or door. Amazes me what crap some people buy. If its anything like mine the panels weigh a bloody ton !!

Double glazed door with old but hinges closes on its own

The pins are cams, so as you rotate them they move the door in/out and side to side by about 1.5mm either way. Sounds to me as though the hinge side is not perfectly plumb.

Mastic peeling from newly instavlled PVCU windows

Get them back to re-do it if you are not happy as water can get in. There could be a number of reasons for this, poor quality silicon, surfaces were dusty when it was applied or if the surfaces were wet at all.

Maximum door opening width - french door options!

IMO 2 x 4ft doors will look awful. The largest size I would go for is 1800mm. If you really must have it opening competely then the only option is bi-fold.

    removing upvc door and frame

If its quite a new house more than likely using fixing cleats which can be a right pig to get out but they are used for speed of fitting. Basically its a strip of metal that clips onto the outer edge of the frame and screwed to the wall before the plasterboard goes up. best bet is to remove...

    Quick decking question

Sorry I don't think I explained very well. The spacing of the joists will be about 500 mm but as the deck will be slightly raised I was wondering how many supports will be needed along the length of the joist. Joists will be 6m long (2 x 3m joists with a post support in between).

    Quick decking question

Hi, haven't been on here for a while. Looking at ordering materials for decking for the weekend, and the local timber merchant do a 120mm x 28mm board and a 145mm x 28mm board. Just wondered what the pros and cons were of the different sizes. It is a fairly large deck (aprox 35 sq m). Also...

can't open UPVC window - lock won't turn

Locking handles are usually pretty poor so you can pull the handle towards you with a bit of force until you can see the locking pin then you should be able to turn it.

Can I plane a bit off the bottom of a composite door please?

Good job. On the majority of doors now though you get adjustable hinges that adjust vertically and horizontally so you can usually tinker with those to get it to shut properly providing your frame is square to start with.

    Decking Joist advice please

I would say that 6 x 2 should be ok for that span, and around 500mm spacing but that depends on your decking pattern.

Why won't my multi-point uPVC door lock anymore?

Sounds like the cylinder has gone to me. Very easy fix. Be aware though that the door isn't locked from the outside if you can't turn the key unless you have a pad handle on the outside.
