    Spray on insulation removal

Hello all I'm handling the sale of my Mother in Law's 3 bed semi ex council house in West London. The buyer's surveyor has picked up that it has foam spray on insulation in the roof (done in 2004) and we need to have it removed and re inspected before the buyer can get their mortgage. As far...

    Bypassing NEST thermostat

Yes... he has a new one coming. Didn't know they pay towards the change out though! I'll let him know and he can chase them on it!

    Bypassing NEST thermostat

Nothing at all when pressed. The manual switch I have added seems to be doing the same thing though.

    Bypassing NEST thermostat

Yep.... nothing, its dead, just wont connect. My son has Googled it and seems like its a fairly common issue and they are sending out replacements.

    Bypassing NEST thermostat

I should have added that the black and grey wires now being switched come from the boiler and were previously wired to 2 and 3

    Bypassing NEST thermostat

Hello all My son's Nest thermostat has packed up (another story) but to get him going we have bypassed it by adding a switch as per the picture. The boiler is a simple Potterton combi. It seems to work just fine by manually switching it on and off but I just want to make sure I'm not causing...

    Hyundai non starter

Had a good look at this afternoon, power was getting to the solenoid but there was no action or sound, contacts were all clean so a new starter motor was obtained, no problem to fit and problem cured. Thanks all for your help and advice.

    Hyundai non starter

I’ve just been out to my sons non-starting Hyundai. Turn the key absolutely nothing not a sound. Getting 12.6 V across the battery, turn the key and you can hear the relay pulling in in the fuse box, but no sound from the solenoid or the starter motor. The voltage doesn’t change when you turn...

    i20 Lambda sensor

Hello all Working on my son's 2011 i20 1.2 and noticed the Lambda reading has been creeping up on successive MOTs, and it only just crept in last year. I'm assuming that after doing plugs, air filter etc and checking for leaks, next thing is Lambda sensor? Any ideas how many, where they are...

    locked door - Hyuandai i20

Thanks all. Had a go at it tonight and it wasn't too bad at all....was in within 10 minutes. A couple of securing screws to remove, drop the window and carefully prise the top of the door inner panel over the lip of the door panel and there is enough space to get hands in and start tugging at...

    locked door - Hyuandai i20

Hi Folks My son's Hyuandai i20 2 door has had a dicky passenger side door lock than has now stopped working completely. Trouble is it's closed and locked! Any suggestions how to get it open? I've tried no end of pressing the remote and wiggling the handle from the inside. There is no key slot...

    changing a concealed flush valve

Thanks...I have checked it as best I can (ie visually) and it does work most of the time, but probably 1 in 20 flushes fails and i need to remove the cover and manually lift the valve. After this its ok again. I guess this rules out the bellows and button?

    changing a concealed flush valve

Hi all I have a loo that doesn't flush unless i remove the panel and lift the flush valve manually. I guess i need to swap it out, but how do you get it out of a concealed cistern without pulling the unit apart? Is it a bayonet fitting that just comes out through access panel?

    Yale Lock

Ok just to close this one out.... the part in question is apparently a security device to stop Euro locks being snapped. It didn't pull apart and even managed to confound a Locksmith who resorted to cutting it out with power tool. Its out now and the Conexis is in and working!

    Yale Lock

Someone at work says these just pull out with a pair of pliers or mole grips. Its actually two parts pushed together from either side of the door. Does this make sense?

    Yale Lock

The Cylinder is out ..... it's the empty carrier that is causing the problem. It slides up and down and appears to straddle in the internal mechanism. It's either two parts pressed together, one from either side or i'm going to need to pull the entire mechanism out of the door to remove it i...

    Yale Lock

Hi all I am fitting a Yale Conexis smart lock, and have removed the existing cylinider ok…. But in my door the cylinder sits in a sliding carrier which protrudes through the door at the front, so the Conexis handle assembly isn’t able to sit flush on the door…. See picture. I cannot see how...

    Hyundai i20 Alternator drive belt

Thanks for your replies. I had a look yesterday and i can't see any form of tensioner, just the crank pulley, water pump pulley, air con pump and alternator. So it looks like it uses a stretch belt. There are a few videos on line showing stretch belts being fitted on other cars and it seems...

    Hyundai i20 Alternator drive belt

Yes it is the same as the video. Looks easy coming off but going back on with a new belt won't be that easy I'm sure.... and on the video the guy says he doesn't think this is the proper way to do it!
