    if it is a site halogen was the lamp rated at 240/230v or 110v? in my experience most are 110 and if you supplied 240/230v lamps you would have problems

    could your tell us what numbers are connected to what cables on the contactor and if there was any preconnected cables? it sounds like once the stat energises it the contactor the holding contacts take over to keep it in, some contactors are pre wired .

    Might sound obvious but check the leads into the meter are connected correctly as if you have reversed the blue and green you will get this problem.

    I would advise you to install a lintel. All external boxes i have come across have a lintel above but these are generaly installed buy the builders.

    if the pipes are just copper tails supplying the rad from a plastic pipe system you should not earth them as you could introduce a potential when otherwise under fault conditions the rad would not become live.
